Lovin this Browning

Well since I have been coming to this forum I have purchased three handguns, I have only purchased three handguns in my whole life for that matter. The first one I got was the HK USP .45. Great gun, feels good in the hand, I shoot really well with it. Then I picked up a used Browning hi-power for about half the price. What an unbelievable gun. The thing shoots like a dream. Then I got a Glock 19.

I didn't think the Browning would be nearly as cool to shoot as my HK or Glock. Bought it just as a beat up gun, but I am really surprised. I also didn't think I would like it as much because it is a heavier steel gun but I am starting to like it because of that fact. I find myself liking it better than my HK or Glock. I am starting to think that if I like it this much my next gun purchase is going to be a 1911 of some sort.

Don't know why I am posting this, just thought that it was something that I should share with you guys since you have all influenced my purchasing decisions over the past couple of months.

Anyways, hope you are all having a wonderful evening. I am going to go back to my Sam Adams now.

Trimation...I have owned all three guns that you currently own. Actually I had the G23 instead of the G19...same gun/different caliber. I have since traded all three. The only one I regret parting with was the Browning Hi-Power. And it wouldn't be so bad except I let several 13 round pre-ban high cap mags go with it. However, I have since aquired a couple of 1911s and they are without a doubt the finest handguns I have ever owned. They will outshoot any other gun in my collection. They will outshoot me for that matter. The 1911 is the finest fighting handgun ever produced to date. I think you would be well served by adding one to your battery.

I'll add a line to the BHP love-fest. The gun is just plain good. There are lots of fancier guns out there, lots of guns that are 'more advanced' or more in-fashion, but I can think of few people who have actually picked up a hi-power that were not impressed with its feel. And it shoots better than it feels. ;)

The 1911? I have one on order from cruffler (c'mon, Adam!), and have fired several. I prefer the HP...but not by much.

As I've recently proclaimed over on the BHP forum, I don't know why I waited so long to buy one. This pistol does everything that it should, and nothing that it shouldn't.

Trimation, have you been to the browning hi-power forum yet? You are not alone in liking the BHP, it has been the best fit in my hand yet of any I've held and fired, and I've tried a lot. I like traditional looking and functioning handguns, and you can't get that any better than in the BHP. Here's the BHP forum:

HPs are great pistols. One of these days I'll have mine...

Another poly to steel convert, eh? There are more and more these days, it seems. (A poly fan will be along shortly to claim the oposite, which is surely true as well. I guesse the point is try before you buy. You may not always agree with the marketers. )

Hang on. It's happening.

Same thing happened to me. Started out with DA/SA guns recommended by all the magazines, etc. Got a BHP, then a good 1911......

So now I really only shoot 1911's, BHP's and Glocks. Shooting in IDPA with various guns convinced me that the SA trigger is the best for me. I shoot demonstrably faster and more accurately with SA guns. DA/SA's have slowly been sold out of my safe depending on the thickness of the dust built up from non-use.

What I'm trying to say is that you are probably really going to enjoy a 1911. My only advice is not to scrimp on your first one. Get a good one and avoid problems. I'd start with a plain jane Kimber custom classic. Shoot it at least 1K rounds and then you'll have some idea what you like and don't like. Find some buddies with some good guns and shoot theirs too if possible. You're in for a fun time.
