Lovin the .38 Special!

I have long admired the round and the guns that shoot it and I finally got a couple perfect revolvers for me! A Model 36 No Dash and a Model 10-6. I also shoot them through my New Model Vaquero exclusivelly. I carry +P's in the Vaquero for Social Work and they work great! No ear splitting muzzle blast, but has good accuracy , low recoil and plenty of power!
My big Bitch is the way costs are creeping up over the cost of 9mm ammo (price per round). The darn 9 is cheaper and the .38Special is slowly climbing up!
Luckilly my Brother reloads and this helps a LOT! He can make perfectly talored ammo for my revolvers cheaply.' I don't have the equipment.
The /38Sp in the little snubbie is a perfect S/D round and gun. You can carry it many ways concealed and still have a manstopper round available!
I know, the .38Spec is on the lower end of the scale but it's very accurate, controlable and penetrates well. It's worked for many years for many Police agencys. It's record is good!
The Model 10-6 is my dream revolver! S/A and D/A slick as hell and the Heavy Barrel is super accurate and tames recoil!
I have a set of Jerry Michuleck grips on it and it turned it into a super D/A shooter! BEST $79 I ever spent!
Yep the .38 Special is truely somthing special for all shooters!

You won't get a argument out of me. I have three S&W 38 specials. One model 10-7 4 inch and two M&P 38 specials. One 4 inch and one 6 inch. All three are very accurate with 158gr lead nose. Also accurate with 148gr wad-cutters. Its been my revolver from S&W for years.

ZVP is there a reason you don't load? 38 Special loads can be put together for cheap & allow you to put many rounds downrange. Just wondering.

The 38 Special is about all I shoot these days. Even in my 357 guns, I almost never shoot magnum ammo.

I reload my own using a Lee hand press, and Lee dippers. I'm just punching holes in paper, so I don't need anything hot loaded.

I'm right there with yall, I love the 38spl also. It is a great carry round and is cheap to reload for so I get plenty of range time with it. One if my favorites is a S&W 242, I know its not a popular gun but with 7 shots on tap and a light weight frame it is a pleasure to carry.:D

Currently have 20 revolvers in 38 Special. Sucker for ex cop guns. Shoot this caliber more than any other. Easy to reload you should get set up.

Couple examples.

Picked this up at a show a few years back for $185. Could probably get my money back at this point.

Nickel 10-7 was a BD present from my wife years ago. I added the ivory stocks.

Got this off Gunbroker for $100.

Oooo, .38 special goodness. Nice guns Saxon!

The .38 is just a nice, well rounded cartridge. Plenty of power (for a handgun) to do the job without the flash and bang associated with the "cool" calibers.

Here's one of mine. A 6" S&W M&P transitional model, made in 1947 or 48 (old long action with a hammer block safety.

two 7 1/2" Officers model targets

I've been shooting these models since my father gave me his in 1958. First with the old 158 gr. win copper plated round nose and the last 25 years with 158 gr. semi wad cutters. Probably put more rounds down range than with my 22's.

38 Special is a neat round. It is cheap to reload if you can find the necessary components these days that is awfully difficult. if using a revolver after shooting the spent brass can be dumped out of the cylinder into your hands rather that all over the place. Practice makes perfect. The Smith and Wesson Model 10 is very economical and well built. My favorite is a J-frame that slips in my front easily. That's my two cents........

Love me some 38spcl. Not a thing in the world wrong with it. And if you reload they are cheap to load, and even cheaper if you cast your own boolits :D. Any one who scoffs at a .38 spcl, ask them if they want to stand in front of it. ;)

Man I love those pencil barrel K Frames.

LAH, that is a sweet Model 10. I have the above pictured pencil barrel M&P 5", as well as a 6". I'm going to have to pick up a 4" Model 10 or pre-model 10 like yours one of these days. Its truly a classic.

In the mean time, I continue to cherish my 4" Model 15-3, which also has a pencil barrel but with adjustable sights.

Okay, here are a few more .38s:

For the love of God please, please stop saying "pencil barrel."

Standard or tapered barrel are appropriate terms. Even light barrel is OK as the opposite is the heavy barrel. But pencil barrel causes the blood vessels in my head to rupture.

Another guy who appreciates the virtues of the 38spl here. I routinely carry a 642 and the Model 13 I have for HD is stoked with 38+P FBI loads.

I also like 1911s and 45acp. Just call me old fashioned. It fits and I like it.

tapered barrel are appropriate terms.

At least now I know the correct term for the barrels I don't like. Those tapered barrels do nothing for me, as with the semi-circular fronts sights. I appreciate they are from an era in firearms that may be nostaglic, but even when I saw them in films back in my youth, I didn't really like them.

Anything from standard to half-lugged and full lugged and I like! I like very much!!

Ditto here. Love the .38 Special, especially +P loads. When it comes to conceal carry, it's definitely my choice.

The market went through the .380 craze for a few years and know we're in the single stack 9mm craze. That's fine, but I still can't find anything that fits as well in my pocket or carries as comfortably as my S&W 438!
