Love that HK91!

Test fired a used HK91 the other day, ran about 250 rounds through it.
WHAT A GUN. Superbly accurate, total reliability, and rock solid throughout. Once again, I was totally impressed by HK quality.

Also shot the CETME. Mechanically, it is essentially the same thing as the HK91, but the trigger group is different internally. Wood instead of plastic fittings. Really very nice throughout. The Spaniards did OK with this one.
This CETME is a great deal for the money, but I think I want the HK due to the parts/service availability.

On the other hand, I could buy FOUR CETMEs for the price of one HK91.... :D

The HK-91 remains one of my favorite semi-automatic rifles. During my college days, we'd take it out and blast away at a metal gong at 100 yards. It never failed to hit the gong. OK, so it was large and about 8" square. While the HK did chew up brass and wasn't as "ergonomic" as the FN-FAL or M-14, it certainly was accurate.

I've got a G3 clone that I love. I almost sold it on this board, but I got a wake-up call.

Really accurate and "evil" looking too. They sell so many toys for these rifles, it's tough not going broke accessorizing it.

My next project is a MSG90 butstock and/or a modified polymer S-E-F lower trigger pack housing to give it that full-auto look. And then...

Buy one, you'll LOVE it.:D

I totally agree 100%

I have had my HK91 for 15+ years and just love it. I have the PSG-1 trigger group in it and a .22 LR conversion for it and it would be the 1st rifle I would take with me and the last rifle I would ever sell.

Other than the name and the material that the receiver is made from, what makes it so much better?

I have a friend with a G3 that is set up with the PSG-1 parts and have fired it several times, but I see no difference in performance other than the nice trigger on his. His "cool" factor is a little better than mine too.

Another friend of mine has a G3A4 and it's really nice too, but again I see no difference in performance. We both think the trigger on mine is better than his on his "real" G3. I think he likes mine better overall, but won't admit to it.

All three of our rifles function just like the other, and are just as accurate as one another.

If it's the prestige factor of having the H&K logo on the gun, that I can understand. I collect Walthers, and no clone could take the place of one of those.

Your thoughts?

Strapped for cash? Try this

I recently bought an FMP (Portuguese G3 made under contract with HK) from SOG for $611.50 shipped. The receiver is FMP and the bolt and carrier are HK. Rifling is new but there was some discoloration to the bolt. Nothing that would effect reliability or accuracy. The only detraction to this rifle is the crappy US made buttstock and slim hand guard and the tight fit between the receiver and buttstock(first disassembly reguired some use of a rubber mallet). Despite this, I am totally happy with my G3. FMP is as good as HK even if it doesn't say HK. It is the same quality control and the same machinery. The engineers are Germans trained by HK. I just took it out yesterday and accuracy was 3.5 MOA off the bench. I did not have sand bags or I am sure I could have shaved at least an inch off of that. I was just running it through the wringer to see what would happen. I was not disappointed. Best value for the money going IMO.

Don't get me started, lol !!! Just went out Sunday and concluded my time at the range with mine. Had to check out some "new" magazines. None of the good ol' boys would come down to my end of the range and talk but you could tell they were trying to decide if it was an AR-15 or just what.
I know that for me, it is worth the $ for the real deal. Helps that I acquired it long before the evil gun ban. In a world of compromise, etc. BTW, the port buffer takes care of the who looks for the brass this time problem.

Great gun! I've actually used mine more for hunting than anything else, except fun! (Who says the black guns aren't hunters!?) Last time out, I jumped a small heard of Pronghorn does at about 30 yards. They took off at a dead run, and 2 quick shots later, I had 2 does for the meat locker. I'd already gotten a nice buck, so my hunt was done, since 3 animals is all my family can eat for the year...don't shoot what we can't eat.

I bought the HK91. :D
What can I say? I am a sucker for a great gun, but I feel pretty smug about it.

A moment of weakness (or strength, depending on who you ask...) and an "easy payment/partial trade" plan made it all come together.
BONUS: Ridded myself of some 9mm Berettas and Sigs. :barf:
No turds in the collection now. None at all.

Now I need an ARMS two lever mount for the Leupold 1.5-5 Vari X III and a trigger job, and I am done. All the "empty" niches are now filled.
