In 2000, we must become politically active in
support of gun rights or we WILL LOSE the right

NO FATE BUT WHAT WE MAKE!!!

Every year, over 2 million Americans use firearms
not to take live but to preserve life,....limb & family
.Gun Control Democrats would prefer that they are all disarmed
and helpless and die victims of felony violence, instead.

Well, at least stricter enforcement of existing laws etc. is ahead of the banning handguns. I voted while I was there. It's funny how they never ask really objective questions isn't it.

Are we losing though?

(Besides, how can we win when there are no clean cut pro-gun options?)

I think that we are actually winning because:

1) OK, a majority of respondents think that gun crimes are on the rise - so? It can mean that the Brady bill and the Feinstein amendment are not working - that guncontrol does not reduce crime;

2) On question 2, a majority of Americans think that we should either enforce current laws or get real tough on gun crime (like the NRA has been saying for years) - increasing guncontrol was a distant third;

3) On question 3 a majority of Americans think that guncontrol is, as it indeed seems to be, an important electoral issue.

So, where are we losing?

The poll as it stands:

quote:

Recent shootings seem to exemplify a rise in gun violence. Do you think violent crimes involving guns are on the rise?

Yes, every week there is another senseless shooting incident: 35,193 votes, 57.4%
No, the rise in media coverage makes gun violence seem more common: 22,095 votes, 36.0%
Not sure: 4,040 votes, 6.6%

Total votes: 61,328
------------------------------
How can gun violence be most effectively prevented?

Stricter gun control laws: 10,896 votes, 17.7%
Proper enforcement of current gun control laws: 13,966 votes, 22.6%
Ban on handguns: 8,039 votes, 13.0%
Stricter punishment for crimes involving guns: 21,961 votes, 35.6%
Other: 5,240 votes, 8.5%
Not sure: 1,623 votes, 2.6%

Total votes: 61,725
------------------------------
Do you consider gun control an important issue in November's election?

Yes: 38,158 votes, 61.9%
No: 20,432 votes, 33.2%
Not sure: 3,013 votes, 4.9%

Total votes: 61,603
[/quote]

My analysis:
I don't see this as bad for us. Why?

Only 12% want to ban handguns, and only 17% want more handgun laws.

22.6% want better enforcement of existing laws and 35.6% want stricter punishment.

Measuring it another way and we get this:

more restrictive measures come in totaling 29%

better enforcement and tougher punishment for crime: 58.2%

Keep in mind the timing of these polls. Seems funny, they always wanna take these polls right after an incedint when emotions are still high. I think it shows craftiness IMHO

"what gives a government that arms the whole world the right to disarm it's own citizens?"

This poll is meaningless. No mater how it is answered (especially #3) the anti rights crowd will claim their victory.

#1 Recent shootings seem to exemplify a rise in gun violence. Do you think violent crimes involving guns are on the rise?
If you count all of the gang activity, yes it is, but isn't crime already outside of the law?

#2 How can gun violence be most effectively prevented?
Every answer is a win for the anti-rights crowd. Remeber they are masters at stealing a position if it looks good.

#3 Do you consider gun control an important issue in November's election?
Who but the brain dead would not realize that all five of the main contenders are playing the "gun" issue for all it is worth?

Why, Libertarian, do you post a message critical to pro-gunners for taking action, even though you may think it ineffective. Don't you think it would be better to praise people for taking action, and to also suggest other avenues which you might consider more effective?

There are plenty of Libertarians here, I'm not sure what percentage, but many of the posts seem to have this "holier-than-thou" approach with regards to not only the Second Amendment, but also abortion, drugs, justification for voting for Algore by casting a protest vote, etc., etc.

If we are to ever prevail, this nonsense of self-aggrandizement and puffery just has to get put in the box when we all enter the room.

If we don't work together on this issue, we are, in effect, supporting the antis.

Are Libertarians really that smug that they can allow Algore to get elected, and have their Second taken away, while feeling that they did what they thought was "holy and right"?

Sounds like Public Broadcasting to me...

Joseph is correct. As Dennis and I once went around - do you prefer to lose and howl once Gore gets in?

With Richards, I could not carry legally.
With Bush, I can. How I am better if
the GOA sank the TX CHL bill or if we voted
for a third party and let Anne stay if office.
