LOP Question

I have searched and searched for a video or picture of how to measure my lop. I have a thick chest, pretty big arms that are short, and a short neck. I'm certain the standard lop is to long (currently 14"). I have cut stocks in the past and always go alittle to short. I just got a new 1187 20ga. and want to cut it down. I know its between 13" and 14" becaue the youth stock on my 870 is too short and its 13". I have been told the bend of the elbow to the middle pad on my trigger finger is not the way to figure it. Instead I'm suppose to measure from my trigger hand thumb to tip of my nose, I'm just not sure where to measure from on my thumb. Anybody know of a video clip or picture. I do much better with a visual reference.

Fitting a shotgun to you is more than just the LOP. Depending on your other measurements the fit should be determined by using a "try gun " which is a gun with all dimensions adjustable. With an experienced stockmaker he finds the set of dimensions that works best for you. It means a custom stock but some , such as myself, really need it. Ohters are lucky enough to require only slight modification to get a good fit.
