loose screws affecting accuracy?

I was shooting my Ruger MKII .308 last Saturday and the shots were scattering (even more than usual :)). I figured the hot barrel was a factor, but last night while cleaning I noticed that the two screws holding the trigger guard were loose. Could those have been a factor in the loss of accuracy?

Y'all don't sound real sure about that. :)

I just wasn't sure if the screws only affect the trigger guard or if they affect more than that.

Tightened!

Thanks

A word of caution here. Don't use "Gorilla torque" when you snug up those screws. Too much is as bad as too little. It causes wood ge-crunchin' and mashing and might cause the forearm to contact the barrel in an accuracy robbing way. I'm sure that one of the 'smiths that looks in here can attest as to what actual torque is best - but just don't crank down hard on those screws. if you're dubbing over the screws, it's a clue that you went too far.
