what kinda loose powder you guys use in your inline rifles?

ive got a knight wolverine and generally use 2-50gr pellets of pyrodex under a saboted 300gr .44 fp.

I use triple seven or pyrodex they both work well in my opinion, but I will only use pyrodex in the older inlines that use a percusion cap, as its the only subsitute that ignites the best with the weaker percussion cap ignition.

777, more powerful and cleaner than pyrodex. If you can find it, use Blackhorn 209. It is the cleanest powder available and is about the same power as 777. However, it is quite hard to find (just introduced to the market last year).

If you use either 777 or Pyrodex, do yourself a favor and do a full wet swab (with the breech plug removed) between shots. Your groups will be tighter and you won't builld up a crud ring in front of the plug.

After 30 plus years of side lock shooting I broke down and got an in-line- mainly for the use of a scope sight. I did quite a bit of checking around and quite a few folks argued you can tweak the load more with loose powder versus the pellets. I had some pyrodex so I took that out for my first test shooting at the range. After getting the sight adjusted, and shooting off sand bags at 100 yards I was getting 2 1/2" to 2" groups. Others tell me I should be able to do better- to keep tweaking. A lot of guys are getting 1" groups at 100 yards.
Troy- one more thing- I was told that a lot of guys are pushing the sabots too hard- if you are moose hunting, etc that may be more important than ultimate accuracy but if accuracy is all important then backing off a bit may be fine. I hunt whitetails, mainly off a tree stand. Accuracy is more important than maximum power so that's the direction I'm headed.

I'm willing to learn- what's the benefit of 777? And, any particular brand of 209 primer that seems better than others?

777 is more potent than any other powder. I'll switch to Blackhorn 209 when it becomes commonly available (much cleaner powder) but until then, 777 is my powder of choice. For primers, I like the Winchester 777 primers. They are not as hot as normal shotgun primers so don't contribute as much "crud ring".

777 is my choice of powder for my Knight USAK - which is dang near identical to the Wolverine - except I'm still using #11 caps for ignition.

80gr of loose 777 will send a 300gr sabot along extremely accurately at 1500fps - good enough for a solid kill at any reasonable muzzleloading distance.
