Looming handgun purchase, handgun purchase, what should I get?

Imminent handgun purchase tomorrow (Saturday), as usual so many choices so little time…

The candidates are SIG P220 .45
SIG P239 .40 cal or .357SIG

The P239 in .357SIG is not a normal resident of most gun shops around my parts, not sure why. So it’s most likely a tossup between the 220 and 239 .40.

Pro’s, con’s welcomed.

Another vote for the P220, but you may want to check with Sig to see if the new Ilaflon finish is available.
 
Ok, seems to be a .45 thing going here. What about this round would make the P220 the obvious choice, or is it the P220 over the P239 that I see.

I have owned P220’s (two, each at different times to be exact) in the past. Also owned a Colt Commander for about 6 months. Never been a BIG fan of .45 but on the other hand with the right load it can be a rather substantial weapon, I would favor a Cor-Bon or similar high velocity round especially with a 5 inch barrel.

Ideas on loads?

I happen to own both. If I had to give up one, it would be the P220 just because I like the P239 better (and I own other .45's). Give us more of an idea of what you want the gun to do and I think you'll get a better answer.
 
Get a 229 (.40S&W) and forget the other two. It's the perfect compromise of the other two, and a bettter gun too ;)

at your request!!! :) As I have said many times before, if a shooter wants to shoot
an auto-loader as his/her basic everyday,
do everything, go anywhere handgun I would
have to chose the world famous Sig-Sauer P220A. :p "Thanks for the applause TFLer's".


It's kind'a like the Glock story. Didn't many
ole' foggies like myself know much about them
fur'in Browning "BDA's" back in the hill country during the 70's. But then, and old boy dressed in Liberty overalls came roll'in
into town with a brand new shoot'in iron on
his hip. :D The little ole' shriveled up town

and went to his local hardware store and ordered what is now known as the Sig-Sauer P220A .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol. And

My two favorite SIG pistols! If you want the BEST SIG SAUER made, that also makes a good HOUSE/RANGE gun go with the FULL SIZE .45ACP P220! If your looking for a conceal carry piece go with the SUB-COMPACT P239 in either .40S&W or .357SIG. I have both barrels for mine! You can find them for just over $100 at WWW.CHEAPERTHANDIRT.COM. Or really bite the BULLET and buy both!
