Looking to pick up a Service Six

I have a GP100 and really enjoy it. I can shoot my super hots out of it all day, still trying to get it dialed right in, but havent figured out how to sight in yet I guess. Anyway, I was looking around at some pawn shops here lately because in my area there arent a lot of gun shops, and gun shows arent advertised well, or I dont know where to look.

So anyway, walk into a local pawn shop and looking in the pistol case, there is a Service Six. I ask to look at it, it seems to lock up well. All of my wheel guns feel about the same. It is blued with a 2.75" barrel. Has a turn line on the cylinder, is a little dirty. Bore looks ok, doesnt have a bunch of pits in it. Cylinder opens fine, grips are factory I am assuming and are a little rough. It looks like the gun was used, and wasnt cared for after every single use. I believe it to be an early 80s manufacture. I cant exactly remember now what the serial was. I have been wanting to get a Service Six for a while. Was going to get a 4 inch, but have been looking at SP101s, and I could fill that size with this Service Six, with just as much reliability, longevity, and at a reduced price.

They have it listed at 399, I have offered 300 everyday for the last week. They keep saying 350. Most of what I see on the Sixes besides on GunBroker and gougers is around 300-325 but I have seen stainless in that price range. Should I keep offering 300? I could use the 50 to buy some bullets!

I believe the shorter barrels were a little less common on those guns, so the price will reflect that. $350 isn't terrible. Though if it sits on the shelf long enough they may become a bit more willing to negotiate.

Keep in mind that on GB purchase you'll have to pay shipping (usually 20-40 bucks) and FFL fees (around 25 bucks in my area) and you can't inspect the gun beforehand ... I feel 350 is fair price for one in good condition. I have bought stainless steel one with 2 3/4 barrel for 389 out of the door just the other day.

Yep, people forget those extras! On the pawn shop purchase, though, you'll pay sales tax. Main difference, IMHO, is the ability to inspect.

Not knowing exactly what condition it is in makes it kind of hard, I'd try $350 otd with them, taxes and all and see what that gets you, also not knowing what your tax rate is.

Since it isn't in the greatest condition, not saying it is in bad condition, just not the greatest, I wouldn't go over $350 out the door on it. Then again that's just my opinion.

I bought my stainless 2.75" Speed Six last summer for $275. I got a helluva deal on it though. I wouldn't pay more than $350 for a blued one.

Wow, I didn't realize there were only five states without sales tax.

I have 3 and that price seems fair
6" blued Security Six = $290
4" stainless Service Six = $329
4" stainless Security Six = $350

They are only going up in value so you better grab it for $350 if you have to! or it'll be another tragic story of a fellow kicking himself.;)
