Looking to buy a new rifle... suggestions?

It's been a while since I've posted on here.

But anyways...

I'm looking to buy a new rifle, I would like a brand known for accuracy.
Preferably bolt action. Semi works just as well.
Caliber between .243 and .308.
I'd like a .338 at some point, along with a 6.8.
My only limit is this...
$750
I can go a little higher, but not by much.
Suggestions anybody?
GO! :)
Thanks ahead of time!

For hunting? Paper punching?

Savage is known for making some accurate, out of the box guns. Thompson/Center is as well. There is always the venerable Remington 700 in more flavors than you can imagine.

Does your $750 budget include optics?

IMO, TC quality has gone down since they were acquired by S&W. Rem quality has gone down since they were acquired. If $750 is for the rifle only, take a look at Ruger, the new Winchester Mod 70, Browning, Weatherby, Savage, Howa (in no particular order).

You could go with a Tikka for around $600. They are available in many calibers.

A friend has one in 308 and it will shoot 3 shots touching and he loves it.

Personally, I would go with a 338 Federal for the larger caliber with less recoil than a magnum but still shooting a 200gr bullet at 2700+. Compare it yourself, it will shoot right along with a 30-06 but with larger caliber out of shorter case/rifle. I have one in a Kimber and love the round.

Savage 10 Predator Hunter in .260 Remington. Better ballistics than .308 with less recoil. Just look at some of the info written about the round. I think the rifle can be purchased for around the price you're willing to spend.

Except for the price of that .260 ammunition. Unless he reloads, I would avoid the .260.

Great opportunity and reason to start! If the OP is interested in shooting his new rifle often, even if it's a .308 or .223, it would be wise to start reloading. We all know you can get started pretty cheap and upgrade and add tools as you go.

I desperately want a rifle in .260 Rem. Or 6.5 Creedmoor. you can form brass for a .260Rem. from .243, 7-08, or .308 brass.

I'm rather happy with my 20" 6.5 Grendel build. I was constrained by the need to not add another rifle to the safe, but I was able to slide an upper by my wife. I just change my 5.56 and 6.5 depending on the distance I'm shooting. 6.5 is a good long range bullet. I teamed mine with a Nikon buckmaster and a custom turret. Just dial up the range and start getting hits.
