I cannot afford a Las Baer or any of the other high end guns. But I do want an accurate shooter, no junk.
What would you guys recommend ?

Do a lot of research and reading. Here is a good place to start: http://forum.m1911.org/forum.php

Once you have bought your 1911, you can then thank yourself if you like it or blame yourself if you dislike it.

Narrow down your likes and go take a look at and get a feel for each pistol. If it is possible, try shooting the ones you have narrowed down on your list.

The only pistol I ever took the opinions of an internet forum group on was the only one I ended up hating. It was a Bersa Thunder .380.

Don't let this happen to you. It is your money, spend it wisely. :)

What's your budget?

You can buy most models of Colt for a lot less than most models of Les Baer.

If you really want entry level, look at Rock Island, Shooters Arms (S.A.M.), Tisas (Turkish, but very solid), Ruger, and several others.

i have a Springfield Armory Loaded model that has been flawless. I rarely read anything negative about SA models of 1911.

You can pick up milspec Springfield Armory 1911's for under $600. I would also echo previous Ruger and RIA suggestion.

Without paying the high end price for quality, look at reviews on newer Named Brands. 1911's are perfected in their build and function, with options and qualities vs. cost.

One is not more accurate as the other. Accuracy in in the hands of the shooter.

My extensive research looked at low ends and high end pricing, but also in the names of the factory who made it. Newer entries are competing for the same thing...pride in having a 1911 in your collection.

I had a budget of around $800, but wanted an upper end name brand without rattle issues in the slide and a sweet trigger. I don't think I was asking for much leverage here.

With YouTube reviews and talking to lots of range shooters, I settled on a Magnum Research (BUL) Desert Eagle 1911 .45ACP. It was made in Israel and had a sweet trigger to boot, with all the amenities in the high end pricing.

I can't shoot it enough with the costs of ammo, but smile and let others marvel over that trigger!

First decide on what you want. I was in a similar position a few years ago and settled on a Springfield Armory loaded model. I have never once regretted that decision and I will never ever sell this pistol. It has proven reliable and accurate.

I would stick with Springfield or Colt. Ruger is new in the game, as is Sig, Remington, and a few others are pretty new.

I have handled rugers and sigs and am not impressed. Kimber is iffy. Kimber is high quality but the quality control can be spotty sometimes.

Make sure you use good magazines (Colt, Springfield, chip McCormick , Czech mate, Wilson combat)

Budget wise I would like to stay under $1000.00. I do want a good trigger and good accuracy. This would not be a carry gun but just a good range gun for target shooting.

Oh boy! I get to dust off my tired old 'Springfield Range Officer' recommendation and post it again!

Well stuff hasn't really changed all that much, RIA is making a nice low cost gun that's getting nice reviews but I still say go the extra money ($750) and get the Springfield Range Officer. It's got the stuff you want (adjustable sights, nice trigger) and none of the extra stuff you don't need or want to pay for. Plus SA has a decent reputation for customer service and their guns have a pretty high level of fit and finish at all levels, not just the RO model.

So you want adjustable sights.

Colt Competition Pistol, or maybe a Gold Cup if you shop carefully. Springfield Range Officer.

It would be hard to pass on a Springfield Loaded. Plus Springfield really stands behind their guns if you have any issues with it.

With a 1k budget a Springfield RO is hard to beat for value, fit and finish, and function for under 1k. You may find pistols that are its equal right at 1k, but a RO can be had for around 700ish and I'm convinced its about the best you can have at that price point.

Or you could get a RIA tactical for around 500ish. Ill be honest i would rate the older models the best 1911 value possible. I don't care for the new RIA tacticals though. I had an older model for a little while and loved it. The new ones... Meh. Those grips bite and I didn't care for the trigger pull. Maybe it was just the one I tried but the reset didn't feel right.

For around $1000.00 or so, you might want to consider a SIG Model TTT. It comes with "nite sights" and a compact but fully adjustable rear sight. It has become my favorite 1911-type pistol.
