Hi all,I have a S&W 38 special CTG. 4 inch barrel, nickle with, white pearl colored grips. Serial number C 246xxx.I would like to know if some one does not mind looking it up any info I can get like when it was manufactured, how many they made in the nickle/pearl grips! It is in pretty good condition, all the nickle finish is there,do not think it's been fired much, handed down from my grandfather!
Thank You

According to my book, your revolver with serial number C246xxx dates to 1953. As to the "white pearl colored" grips, I suppose we'd have to get a look at them to determine what they might be. Do they have genuine Smith & Wesson medallions in them along the lines of wood stocks?

I happen to own a gun very similar to yours, nickel finish with genuine mother of pearl grips, but mine is six inch barrel, much older than yours and my grips are absolutely not original equipment from Smith & Wesson. Of that I am certain.

The one thing I can tell you about genuine mother of pearl is that they have a yellow hue to them over time and an iridescence that is pleasing to the eye when it's the real deal.

It's a bit of a shame that mine are not original Smith & Wesson equipment, but my Grandfather knew what he wanted when he bought that revolver in 1923, so I can't complain a whole lot. ;)

Post a picture of your revolver if you can. Someone who knows far more about originally issued Smith & Wesson grips & stocks can better comment on what you've got.
