Looking for the right .223/5.56 ammunition

Over the past two years, I have been pretty well stocked up on 5.56. I lucked into scoring 4000 rounds of PMC XTAC 62gr steel core for about $500.

Now that I can't find them in stock reasonably price anywhere, I'm looking for a potential replacement round.

I've had my eye on some of the lake city stuff/m855

I'm just not sure I want to dump a bunch of money into a couple cases without knowing something about it.

Has anyone used this stuff and is it any good?

Thanks

Well, since the PMC XTAC 62gr steel core is basically just the Korean copy of the Lake City M855, I'd say you will be fine with the M855.

I haven't had any problems out of the xtac at all...I'm a little hesitant on purchasing the federal/lake city stuff because I don't know if my rifle will shoot it just as good.

I would like to try a few boxes out first, but unfortunately it looks like you can only get this other stuff in bulk.

I just want to avoid having a bunch of ammo that will have FTF or FTE issues.

I was hoping some users of this ammunition could let me know how it performs in their rifles or across the board.

Thanks

Widener's sells Israeli made IMI M855. This stuff is made to NATO specs and is more accurate that Lake City XM855 in my AR and cheaper too! I think IMI M855 is probably the best ball 62 grain ammo readily available to civilians.

Well, if your AR is built to any standard of quality at all, it will run the Lake City M855 just fine. After all, it is the ammo that modern ARs were built to run.

As mentioned earlier, the PMC XTAC 62gr steel core is just a Korean-made commercial version of the M855. The only difference that can tell at all is that the XTAC brass is a little more polished (shiny) than the "military-grade" Lake City brass. They shoot the same (both are great) in my experience.
