I am plannig on going out and Purchasing a Special Purpose Mossberg 500 Pump Action Pistol Grip Shotgun tomarrow with some cash given to me over the holidays. I have been looking into purchasing a shotgun for some time, and have decided on the Mossberg 500 becuase there seems to be an endless number of modifications you can perform.

Does anyone have any feedback or suggestions?

Thanks.

I have shot 3 different model 500s and I thought they were all good guns. I really liked the location of their safety on top of the receiver. One of them that I got to shoot was a 20ga with a pistol grip stock and aside from compactness, it [the pistol grip] seemed like a waste. Hip shooting isn't very accurate and I didn't like how uncontrollable the gun felt. I had to work to get the bead back on target. I only shot 2 3/4" #8s through it, but slug or buckshot loads would have been even less managable. In my opinion, I would buy it with a full stock.

PG Only shotguns are for the movies, not the real world. The Mossberg with a real stock is a fine shotgun.

I have the 500 Cruiser. It's a fine shotgun never had a problem with it. I tried the pistol grip with slugs and buckshot loads not very pleasant or accurate. Had a very sore web of my hand after 3 boxes. Needless to say the stock is on and the pistol grip is in a drawer somewhere.

Advice? Don't do it. Stick with a conventional style stock.

I find it interesting how Mossberg fans tout the "superior" placement of the top tang safety, no matter how difficult it is to get to once that horrid pistol grip only stock is installed...

Update

I placed an order today for a Mossberg 500. It comes with both the standard stock and a pistol grip stock. So I can interchanged the two stocks depending on the day. I paid $322 after tax and all the details.
