Looking for Rem 57 & Alcan G57F primer loading data.

Have Rem 57 & Alcan G57F primers would like to load CB4118-12B or Win AA w/. Red Dot. Can't find charge info.

I haven't loaded shotgun shells for years - back in the paper hull days. Now that I have a break in my pistol and rifle loading I'd like to load some 12 ga trap, skeet and hunting loads.

I have several boxes of Remington # 57 and Alcan G57F Max Fire primers and would like to find charge data for Windjammer CB 4118-12B and Winchester AA hulls. I will probably be using Red Dot powder and lead shot. I have several bags of lead shot in 5, 6, 7 1/2 & 8. I have a MEC Grabber reloading press with # 29 (17.1 grains), 30 (17.8 grains) and 33 (19.9 grains) powder sleeves.

Thanks

data

I have an older Lyman #2 shotshell manual. The load data in there for the Remington 57 primer has 12 ga. 2 3/4" loads with 1 3/8oz to 1 7/8oz of lead and using Remington or Peters hulls. Magnum loads.
There is also data for a number of more normal 20 ga loads. Again - Remington/Peters hulls.

I'll check my stash of hulls. I'm sure I have some Rem - Peters high base hulls. Any Red Dot loads in there and what powder charges do they use with each shot load?

I have a Lyman's Shotshell Handbook, 2nd Edition (1976). It has Alcan 220 and Remington 97, but it doesn't have the Alcan G57F or Rem 57 primers.

The hulls, all are once fired 12 ga, I have in descending order by quantity are:

1) Federal low brass base which show original load was 3 1/4 -1 #8
2) Federal low silver base 3- 1 1/8 - # 7.5 & 8.
3) Win AA low brass base. 3 - 1 1/8 - #7.5.
4) Universal low silver base 7.5 & 8.

I know these aren't the hulls for the max loads you described but I know I have some Rem -Peters high base as well - just not as many as the lighter trap / skeet loads.

AFTER SOME 'GOOGLING' I FOUND ALCAN G57F'S BEING USED WITH REM-PETERS paper HULLS. IS THAT WHAT YOU FOUND?

The Remington 57* and the Alcan 57-size primers won't physically fit a Winchester hull. They fit only certain Remingtons and have been out of production for a long time. The hulls they fit are out of production also.

57

My mistake - the data is for three inch R-P hulls. The data IS in the Lyman 2nd edition. Look at pages 101-103. Current powders listed are Herco, Blue Dot, Unique, SR 4756.

Alcan G57F primers

Hello. My name is Norm Williams. I have some brass 12 gauge shells, and would like to obtain some G57F primers. Any idea where I could find some? Thank you for your time. Norm

which

Norm; I have a great interest in different brass hulls. Which are those that use that primer? And where'd you get them?
Are they the old Alcan brass hulls?
Primers - I understand that CCI 109 primers are very close in size to the G57Fs. A little reaming is needed to allow them to seat fully.
Also...don't know how much easier it is to find CCI 109s but - and here the circle starts - I have read that the 109s are ballistically the same as the CCI 209s - so, in terms of fit....209s and a little reaming?
I have some Alcan zinc hulls (at least I believe that they are zinc) that function well with standard 209 primers. So I wonder....

Also....all of my brass hulls - except the lathe turned hulls from RMC - are too large inside to use standard 12 ga. wads. They must be loaded with 11 gauge components to function properly. The Alcan hull pictured below is no exception. I'm guessing that your brass hulls are the same.
Thanks.
