Does anyone have any advice for someone looking to go on their first prairie dog shooting adventure. I am looking to go to South Dakota or Wyoming but other than that i have no knowledge of prairie dogs.

Please PM me if you have any advice that could help me.

Thank You.

I took the I-94 turn to go to Pierre and stayed at the Ram-Kota Inn. There is a sporting goods store near there. When I bought my small-game license, I also got a map of The National Grasslands, and the directions to the dog towns.

Yeah, kind of like a canned hunt, but it was my first time, too.

I thought all new prairie dog hunters were required to stay in the basement of the Antelope Country Inn in Mission SD the first time. :)

You can hunt most of the Indian land with an additional permit.

South central SD, near Murdo & White River is ground zero for P-dogging. I'd consider hooking up with a guide if it's your 1st time or you are unable to put in the research time. You could also join 'The Varmint Hunters Association' to get some points of contact. Mid June is about the perfect time to go. I went with the Son the last 2 years but won't make it this year. It's LOTS of fun.

well the prairie dogs are out and lots of em all ready just get in your truck and drive around and glass good flt areas that seem to have scattered mounds they are everywhere

When I was working in the missile fields they were everywhere. It shouldnt be to hard to connect with the rascals out there. We couldnt shoot them with or M16's though, had to just watch em play!
