I was looking at a S & W model 908 (909?) but that's no longer an option.

Here's what I had in mind:

-9mm
-Single stack
-Double action
-De-cocker
-"Lawyerized" (ie, mag disconnect safety and other internal passive safeties)
-3-4 inch barrel
-Alloy frame (polymer may be an option)
-Overall compactness. Doesn't have to be a "carry peice" per say, but it should have a narrow profile and be somewhat concealable.

Any suggestions?

There is a problem with S&W's UK owned company at present as regards collusion with the Klinton Admin. Might be a good idea to check this "ban" out, after all united we stand, divided we fall.......

The 908 is the pistol you have described. The 909 is the service size version, with 4" bbl, and 9rd mags. Good guns both. If you find the 909 new, it's safe to buy. They were discontinued long before the treason. If you go for the 908, buy USED. :)

How about a Taurus PT911? It meets most all of your qualifications, and Taurus has really improved their quality control lately, plus you get a lifetime warranty. One thing I like about the Taurus is you can also carry it cocked and locked in addition to the da/sa decock function.

Jack,

I would tend to agree with Greg. Sounds like the Taurus PT911 is exactly what you are looking for. I've looked at a couple of these but haven't bought one (yet ;))and they seem to be well made. My experience with Taurus has been very positive with the exception of a PT111 Millenium. I have both a PT92 and older model 66 revolver and both are high quality firearms.

Hope this helps.

You can get a SIG Sauer P225 or P239 that will fill all the requirements you stated. This pistols are also head and shoulders above SW in terms of quality, reliability and accuracy.

So many pistols, so little money.

Jack9, you just described the Walther P5 or P5c.

You can find the P5 in the low 500's. The P5c, well, that;s going to be in the high 600's or low 700's. Both are probably the finest carry 9mm's I have ever owned.

The Walther is a good option, and so is the Sig.
An HK P7M8 would be my choice.

How bout the S&W 3913. It's smaller than the 908 but fits your description. I've seen used ones in my area for around $375 and SOG (shtoguns news advertiser) recently had used ones for around $330.

Thanks, I knew they made a 909. I actually liked the 908 better.

I think I'll check out the Walther. Its a little more than I wanted to spend, but its not too bad.

How about the Ruger P95? Its thinner then Ruger's other models and has a polymer frame. Affordable, reliable, and rugged. I got its sister gun the P97 in .45ACP and I love it. It fits my hand perfectly and has never jammed cheap ammo with brass cases.

Good luck,

Shok

Too bad you are limiting yourself. The SIG P225 does not have the 'trigger disabling device' or 'widowmaker' that you seem to desire and at $329 for a VG used gun they are a bargain. I like mine better than the P7 though I have never fired a P5. Is the Walther widowmaker equiped?

Jeff, yep. The P5 and the P5c both have a multifunction *flush* lever. If the slide is locked open, the first depression of the lever will release the slide, the second depression will decock. And I do mean the lever is FLUSH with the frame.

The P5c is still the best CCW 9mm I have ever owned/carried. Well, actually my wife won't let me carry it - she does!

Jack,
I just bought the S&W 908 new last week and really like it. It is very accurate and fuctions perfectly. I got it from Smallwood Firearms in Sharpsburg,Ga. at (770)253-9752. Talk to Sandy Smallwood. He's a really nice and honest guy and will get you one if he can. Also, check out the BabyEagle w/ polymer frame. It has everything you want and is extremely well made. He only had the steel frame in stock when I got the S&W and if he'd had the polymer frame in stock I'd have probably bought it instead.
Good Luck,
Dave
