Hello everyone looking for a nice turkey shotgun for this spring. I was Looking at purchasing a browning maxus, but I am going to get that for my waterfowl instead. Looking for a nice lightweight turkey gun. Any Ideas or what you use would be GREAT! thanks everyone!:D:D:D

Turkey gun and lightweight don't often go in the same sentence. Many turkey hunters prefer super heavy 3 1/2" loads and that tends to mean a heavier gun. I've heard lots of good stuff about the new Browning/Winchester automatics. However, they will set you back some pretty serious cash.

You can buy a brand new Mossberg 835 3.5" for less than $300 (or my slightly used one for $225).

I had an 835 a long time ago and it could cycle anything. I had to sell it to finance another shotgun but I may just buy another one soon.

I'm a devout turkey hunter. I've tried a lot of different scatter guns over the yrs...Benellis, Ithaca, Rem, Win, Brownings, etc. My all time favorite is a $99 H&R single shot 12ga in 3.5". It shoots a pattern like a rifle. I mounted up some Fiber optic adj. sights, a tight choke whos name escapes me right now, and a good recoil pad. It had a Mossy Oak finish from the factory. The gun is very light and I joke that it kills on both ends.:D

Depending on the style hunter you are, where you hunt, bag limit per day etc will come into account. I usually hunt in a 1 bird a day state (1 shot is enough), Sometimes in mtns (Light weight helps climbing hills), sometimes in bottoms wearing hip boots (if I get it wet, no huge worry) Sometimes I may hear a bird a long way off and need to get there before another hunter. Once agin the weight matters to me.

Hunt safe and identify your target first and foremost. Keep in mind the challenge is calling them in close.
