Looking For New Leather For My SAA

I am hopefully getting my Taylors Smokewagon next week.

Does anyone have any experience with Arvo Ojala Holster Co. or Alfonso's Gunleather ? I guess you can tell that I am looking for a Matt Dillion rig.

Send a PM to Idaho Mike he does great leather work, prices are good, show him a picture of what you want.

My Smokewagon showed up today. I am pleased with the fit & finish. It looks a lot better than my pictures.

A few makers that I am looking at for my gunbelt are Mernickle, Frontier and Alfonso's. I can't get in touch with Arvo.

Looks like a nice one. .45LC I believe. I love mine and it is easy to reload for this round. I like the checkered grips. Is that the gunfighter grips?

Yes it is a .45 , good eye. I will need to get a reloading press now to feed it. I didn't realize how much .45 LC cost. I guess it was good I never found a Colt. I waited and searched all last year and never saw one at a resonable price. The few that I did see were over MSRP and I will not pay that.

Now I can use the difference in the price that I was going to pay for the Colt and get some reloading equipment. I figure that I have $600 dollars to spend on reloading equipment, suggestion appreciated. I don't shoot but about a 100 rounds a month, but might shoot more if ammo is cheap.

The grips are nice, I really like them. I don't know if they are gunfighter grips though. They are described as thin checkered wood grips on Taylor's websight.

I will check out that holster maker.

Thanks ya'll

Mernickle and Alfonso's are top quality. Alfonso is probably better if you want a rendition of a movie holster. Frontier I'm not familiar with.

A Lee starter kit and a set of Lee dies are all you need to get started other than the obvious. That's what I use. I load 100-200 rounds at a time. I use Unique and Trail Boss powders and 255 grain SWC bullets. I have a Rossi in .45 and a Remington 1858 with a conversion cylinder also in .45. When you have to feed three you go through a bunch of rounds.

epsaddlery.com checkout their line of leather. I second the Lee Challemger kit, FSreloading.com has great pricing and you can choose USPS shipping.

I'll put in another recommendation for IdahoMike. He's made three holsters and a cartridge belt for me and they're all top rate and priced right. And he's pretty quick, too.

You'll need a seance to get through to Arvo.
Mernickle & Alfonso's are both excellent quality.

I knew that Arvo died, but I thought his daughter Inga kept business going with his name ( The Arvo Ojala Holster Company ) .

Arvo never, to the best of my knowledge, did his own leather work.
I have experience with the other two, but Ojala-marked leather has been made by a number of other people over the years & I've not seen any of it in person.
