i currently collecting objects for our spring maching gun shoot for the public. i have so far collected lots of bowling pins, toilets,
computer monitors, and water meters.

any suggestions on what else to obtain???
what is the funnest target that you use???

How about some mannequins? Never shot at one though.

My buddy and I typically use old milk containers full of water. This past sunday we put some 2-gallon water containers at 400 yards. Nice big splash when hit.

A junk car or three, old refrigerators and other appliances.

Bottle Caps.

Hot Glue a bottle cap collection onto a sheet of ply wood = and for rifle drills have your spotter call off the brand and the shooter has got to hit it. Make time a factor and run a score. To add the challenge - spotter could call a reoccuring brand and the shooters has to pick out and pick off all of them. Or even more sinister - Call out Dark Lagers or Guiness! Hence shooter must do a bit more thinking on the fly.
Make several such target boards and you got a contest!

Not enough bottle caps - try numbered poker chips or Pages out of a Year Book "All the Hot lookin Blonds!" Kidding - but you can be creative with out spending money.

Nickels are great to shoot at with .223
Old fruits and vegies are good too. Necco wafers are fun they explode and you don't really need to clean them up. Another fun thing to do is to fill a balloon with flower then inflate it, tie a string to it and tie it to a tree.

This idea might not appeal to handloaders, but it sure is gratifying to hit a spent shotshell or a spent .30-.30 casing. Took me nine attempts on Monday--(and that's eight too many-- :( --but I hit a spent .410 shell at fifty yards. Very satisfying.

Hey! He's talking about targets for MACHINE GUNS and all you guys are suggesting aspirin tablets. Wot kinda machine guns YOU got?

"Yup, I shot my 1921 Tommy gun but only got a 7/8" group with da scope mounted on da operating lever."

.............Partially empty spray paint!

Yaaaaaaaaah!!!!!

some nice ideas that i will have to try.
i've always wanted to shoot at blue-tip matches at 25yds and try to lite them.
saw it on the beverly hillbillies as a kid.

but for this shoot we need easy targets.
on may 20th in princeton minnesota we are hosting an open machince gun show and demo shoot. people can shoot any machine gun for the cost of the ammo.
we have lots of curio and relic stuff available. thompsons, bar, vickers, sten,
sterling, 1919's, madsens, spitfires, mp40,
and the list goes on and on. usually around 100 different guns available. some newer models as well like m16, m14, uzi, ak47,
machine pistols as well. and yes we have a
big ma-duece 50cal (my favorite)

IIRC,someone I once knew set up 55 gallon drums half full of gas (checked the price lately???YEOW!)at 2K yards, & shot at them with APIT's in .50 BMG's......
