I am looking for info on a French Military Rifle. The MAS-53 ??. 7.5mmx? Can't seem to find good info for this or other foreign military weapons. Does anyone have a good sourcw. Also, I do have a good address for finding info on Italian Carcano rifles. c96@ix.urz.uni-heidelberg.de and at glibera1@stevens-tech.edu

Thanks for resposting your question at the Rifle forum.

The best book I've found thus far on French rifles is "Proud Promise" which is published by Collectors Grade Publication in Canada. It's a book which will open your eyes with regards to firearms development. Apparently the French were trying to develop a semi-automatic rifle prior to WWI and experimented with all types of gas actions. The book covers those early attempts all the way up to the Mas 49/53.

If you have any specific questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'll try my best to answer. Also, member Harley Nolan is the Answer Man to obscure questions. Do a search using his name to get Harley's email address.

Finally, you may want to try this website:

http://www.netaphore.com/guns/frenchguns_home.us.html

Not sure if your particular weapon is there but a site on French weapons is at www.netaphone.com/guns/Frenchguns.home_us.html. Found it via a link through Fulton Armory.

Thanks alot for the tips. I will check them as soon as I get out of here. I stumbled across a site last night, by accident, that happens to sell the MAS-49/56. www.sarcoinc.com
