this revolver used to belong to an uncle of mine and i have been trying to find out some info on it. worth, year, and so on. the gun looks like new condition, it has been fired and its shoots great. everything with it is original ( box, instructions/parts list, warrenty card, dryfire practice card/with sight adjustments on back, and holster)

The box says k-22 masterpiece blue finish model 17 6" barrel

the ser.no. is k492xxx, matching on bottom of grip and near wheel. model 17-2.

any idea of value and the date it was made ? also, what does the CTG on the barrel mean ?

CTG stands for 'cartridge'.

Value would be in the high $400's to mid $500's depending on location.

A SWAG on date would be late 50's early 60's. Someone will be along shortly with an accurate date.

CTG=cartridge.
Supica lists a Excellent condition Model 17-2 at $300, $400 for a NIB example. Your revolver would appear to fall in between. You just don't see them on the market very often, and you could expect every bit of $400 on a good day. Your S&W is a desirable model, pinned and recessed with the original grips. The only thing the 17-2 lacks is the triggerguard screw. The serial number should be stamped inside on one grip.
The Model 17-2 was introduced in 1961, and ran to 1967.

I would consider a Jinks letter for this revolver. It's only $30 from S&W's own historian, and will secure the collector's value of a very nice piece. Take care of the revolver and the box and papers.

That's a beauty ! I saw a K-22 Tuesday with no box, etc, and in slightly less good shape for near $400. It's the first one I have seen for sale in several years, and I may buy it. They are great fun to shoot.

As stated, hang on to the box, papers, etc...THey add considerably to the value of the piece.

Enjoy it.

No one mentioned that in the photos that K-22 is wearing the original diamond-cut wood "Magna" grips. Those are semi-valuable all on their own. I'd probably replace them with some inexpensive replacement grips and put the diamond grips in the original box for safekeeping.
