I'm thinking about loading some CCI shot capsules for my .38 sp. Has anyone loaded these before? I'm wanting a light load for snakes and small vermin. Also, can I load these with my standard dies or is a special set needed? Any info appriciated, this is a new type of load for me.

It's a simple process loading CCI shot capsules. The reloading data is on the capsule box. Load using the data listed and not higher or lower charges. Powders listed are Unique-5.5 grains, 700-X-4.5 grains, HP-38 4.5 grains, Bullseye- 4.5 grains, and Win 231 at 5.0 grains. You simply dip the capsule into the shot filling it to where you can just get the basewad snapped into the capsule. You size and prime cases and charge with powder then using a flat seater punch in your seating die you use light force to seat the shot capsule. Seating depth is 1.500" for both .38 and .357 mag cases. After seating you use a light crimp just enough to keep the capsule from moving. Careful with all operations as the capsules are very brittle. Recommended shot is #9 but I've used 7 1/2 which works well too. In my tests with .38 and 44 Mag shot capsules the pattern spread is about 1" per foot so 6 ft. and the pattern is about 6". You can start the capsules into the case with your thumb, it's that easy.

"...shot capsules for my .38 Sp..." Kind of a waste of resources. Shot fired out of a rifled barrel flies in a spiral, sending the shot who knows where. Tends to cause really big holes in the pattern.
Speer shot capsules. CCI and Speer are owned by the same holding company.

Contrary to what T.O Heir says the shot capsuls work fine when loaded as per directions. I even cut the capsuls shorter so I can load .38 S&W shot capsuls.
