Looking for grip advice for S&W large frame

I have a large frame 41 and a large frame 44. Both have S&W grips, but the 44 has checkered wood which is fairly wide and wider at the base. The 41 has skinny rubber finger-groove grips. These are both square butt guns. I like the fit of the fat-ish wood grips on the 44 better and would like to get a set with that fit for the 41, but maybe in some nice wood while I'm at it.

But they look like they may be on the skinny side. I don't have huge hands or anything, but a hefty stock is preferable to me when shooting a gun that's going to kick. Any recommendations would be great.
 
Well for what its worth, both guns are N frame. I assume the models are actually a model 57 41 mag and a model 29 44 mag? They are also probably square butt revolvers. So you would then need square butt + N frame grips.

How do you like the Heritage Rosewood Grips by Eagle ?

They're available checkered or smooth for the same $$$.

Yeah, I know I can swap them, but then I'd have grips I like less on the 44. The Eagle ones look really nice in the picture, but there was another thread on here with a lot of dissatisfied customers. I may take a chance anyway. Thanks.
 
For an off-the-shelf grip, the Ahrends Retro Target is a good one, albeit a bit too thin. By contrast, those old checkered target stocks were way too thick. I have a box full of them. The best in my paws is the Herrett's Roper stock.

FWIW, I've bought 5 different grips from Eagle, over the years, and have never been disappointed or had an issue.

What I DO know is that is a customer has an issue with the grips, Eagle will stand behind them & make it right.


IMO, They're a good company/people to do business with.

Ditto on the Eagle grips. I got a set of their sledgehammer ivory grips that convert K frame round butt, to square butt. They look, and fit great.
 
I've installed Ahrends grips on a couple of my N frame Smiths. For me, they were definitely too skinny for such a large revolver. I sold them and bought period correct factory replacements off of another internet gun forum.
 
Those grips look good, and probably feel good, but it all depends on the size of one's hands. Grips are kind of like buying a pair of shoes, its best to try them before you buy 'em.
 
Those Hogues from Midway are going to feel like wooden versions, size wise, of their rubber counterparts. Meaning, they aren't any fatter, but should have the same palm swell, and will be slicker then the rubber.

I have a set of those, wooden Hogues, on my .44 mag Andaconda, which came factory with the rubber Hogues. The wood looks better, the rubber shoots better, specially with full power loads. Sizewise, they feel identical.
 
Oh, they definitely look good, which is why I got them. They can be punishing to shoot full power loads with because they are slick, it's hard to get a really good grip on them.
