Looking for an outdoor range near Geauga County, Ohio

I am going to visit the in laws over in that there Ohio this 4th of July weekend and I want to take my brother and father in law shooting.

I am coming up bingo on Google so I am looking for some help from the locals.

My in laws live in Geuaga County, near Middlefield/Burton. Willing to drive an hour in any direction for a quality range.

Any help is appreciated!

PS to Ohio residents: I promise not to bring Patt Quinn, Rham or Dick Durbin with me on my visit!
 
Grand River Wildlife Area

Ohio's Division of Wildlife operates ranges all over the state. Lucky for you, there is one about 10-20 minutes (depending where in Middlefield you are going) away - Grand River Wildlife Area.

They have a 25, 50, and 100 yard line, along with a hand trap range.

One catch - you need a permit to access the rifle/handgun lines (it is not needed for trap), and they are NOT sold at the range. You must purchase the license at any store that sells hunting/fishing licenses. A one-day pass is $6 I believe, or the annual pass is $22 if you plan on being there more than a couple times (for OH residents at least).

You can find me there usually once or twice a month. It is a decent range and the Range Officers are very friendly and knowledgable. Not too many places in NE OH where you can shoot rifles (unless you belong to a gun club), and this is the best one I have found so far.

When I put in within 60 miles from the zip code for Middlefield Ohio, I got an extremely long list of locations.

You need to buy your own pass

I don't believe your brother-in-law will be able to get your pass as they swipe your driver's license and your name is on the pass. You will need to stop in at a gunshop/sporting goods store once you cross the border.

FYI, they provide a backer, but you need to bring targets and tape/stapler to affix them. Only "single sheet" targets are allowed (paper, stickers, etc).

Other than that, enjoy the range. Good staff, good facility, and usually good people there shooting as well who follow general gun safety rules (which is important considering it is up to the users to call a cease fire and ensure the line is unoccupied before heading downrange).

I'm glad you enjoyed the range.

I have it found it to be a very safe range, full of good people that love to shoot. They have plenty of lanes and knowledgeable range officers that are willing to help if you ask politely.

Even though it is about an hour drive for me, I continue to go back as it is the best public rifle range I know of around here.
 
I just wish we had public ranges like that here in Illinois, even the private ranges seldom let you double tap or things like that. wow it felt good to be on a range in a free state!
