a Red Dot with Magnification, hmm.
Why not try this out, Load up Primary Arms website. You can get one of their highly rated ,very good spoken of red dots (in the Aimpoint Micro style, the Aimpoint M3 style or M4 Style) ... get one of those, pick your mount. then you can also get one of their highly highly rated magnifiers, 3x, Deluxe 3x, 5x or new 7X... I want the Deluxe 3x. And get a flip-to-the-side- mount for the magnifer.
Now you got a nice red dot optic, real affordable. High quality for the price. You got a nice 3x magnifer to increase range, and it flips out of the way when you are doing your CQB, and when you need to increase your range and distance and wanna see better, simply flip that puppy back over and it sits on front of your red dot, now you can concentrate.
Again they do make 5x and 7x, but everyone says 3x is the best, and Aimpoint & EoTech's real expensive magnifiers are 3x so, they must be on to somethin!

Another option for a red dot optic with magnification is the Mueller 2-7x32 multishot scope. It has an illuminated red dot and a a non illuminated outer circle. I have one on one of my AR's and love it. With it set on 2x I can shoot with two eyes open and then dial it up to 7x for 300 yard shots. The glass is very clear for its price point (~$150) and the overall construction is top notch.
I was checking these out not too long ago, they get alot of good reviews and are around $300. Just remember the simple rule of optics: You get what you pay for. http://www.burrisoptics.com/ar332.html
