Looking for an Expert Mauser Gunsmith / Machinist

Does anyone know of a truly meticulous Mauser machinist / gunsmith? I am not looking for someone to screw a barrel on, I am looking for someone that knows how to clean/true the face of the inner torque shoulder concentric with the bore of the receiver, clean/chase the receiver barrel thread concentric with the bore of the receiver, and face the receiver perpendicular to the bore of the receiver.

This is not a mandrel and tap job.

I can do all the other work and will have the receiver re-hardened by Blanchard’s in Salt Lake City.

I sure hope someone can help because it is getting harder and harder to find guys that know how to do the work the right way…

Thanks in advance.

You should also check to see that the lugs are both contacting the bolt. There are some excellent smiths out there but I don't know who.

With other words, you're looking for a complete blueprinting or truing job on your action. Not done all that often on a Mauser action anymore since the Rem 700 is considered superior for high accuracy rifles due to the faster ignition time. I had that same discussion a year ago with a gunsmith, after discussing prices I figured I can get a new custom action for the price of the labor.
But if you want to spend the money on an "ultimate Mauser", give Chad Dixon at Longrifles, Inc. a call, he'll get you that 0.0001" accuracy.

I spoke to Greg Tannel of Gre-Tan http://www.gretanrifles.com/index.asp and he is going to do the work. Even a brief conversation with the fellow proves that he has his s**t together and knows what he's doing.

He is going to indicate the action in off of the bolt-bore axis, then single-point the inner torque shoulder, bolt-lug engagement surfaces, reciever face, true up the receiver barrel threads, and bore the action true and concentric...

Whew...

THEN, he is going to machine the bolt face and bolt-lug engagement surfaces, double-sleeve the bolt body, and bush the firing pin hole...

It will be the best possible VZ24 action one could ask for.

Can't wait!

Just a very accurate Mauser rifle - something I've always wanted.

I guess you could call it a Varmint rifle if you have to give it a name, but for me it will be a 280 Ackley Improved 800-yard killer :D

It will have a Schneider stainless steel 8-twist polygon barrel on it for shooting 168g and 175g Sierra MatchKing and/or 168g Berger VLD bullets - depending on what it likes best.

PHOTOS, PHOTOS, and more PHOTOS

A picture saves a thousand words, PLEASE send before and after photos...can't wait to see!:D

Well I am in the middle of shaping the Dakota bolt handle that was just welded to the bolt so as soon at that is finished I will post some photos of the action for the "before"...

I was going to suggest the Harry lawson Company here in Tucson, but I see you already have someone picked out Joe , their metal man at lawsons is extremely anal about his work. The company has done three custom rifles for me, all on Mauser actions and all three rifles a from sub-MOA to MOA depending on the loads used and my shooting ability on any one day.
FWIW, I'm abut to commision them for rifle #4, if that means anything.
