that reports documented instances from around the country of gun owners defending themselves with firearms, preventing crimes, etc. Is there one out there?
 
Unfortunately, most defenseive uses of a firearm are not reported because the situation was defused by the mere presence of a gun, the display of a gun, the drawing of a gun or the threat that the 'victim' is armed, all without any shots being fired.

I can think of seveal that come to mind myself. Here's just one such example...

When my wife was divorcing her ex, she moved back home with her parents. The ex came by to start some trouble. Wife's brother backs up his sister by racking the slide on his shotgun, out of sight but nearby in the hallway. Situation ended real quick. :D
