Looking for a sling.

My friend owns an AR-15 and was wondering what type of a sling you guys would recommend.

I did a search, but came up with nothing substantial.

Thanks!

It depends on what use the sling is intended for. For just carrying on the shoulder, an inexpensive military sling will work well. For carrying "at the ready" a Giles sling, Chalker rig or equivalent would be much better.

John, if your friend is also in Phoenix, tell him to go to The Wilderness (aka Wilderness Adventure HQ), over on 19th Ave, north of Camelback Road. Get a Giles sling for the AR-15 - they're great. About $50. Call 602/242-4945. I thought they had a web site, but I can't find an address. I heard about them from the folks at Gunsite.

The Wilderness' web page is:

I have one of their Giles slings and they do work well.

You should also check out GRSC's V-Tac and Snap Sling at:

http://www.grsc.com/vtac.htm

They use sling adaptors that replace the spacer between the lower receiver and the buttstock and another that attaches to the bayonet lug that incorporates a mounting point for a flashlight or laser. If you don't have a bayonet lug, you could probably use the side sling adaptor instead.

I've got a Ching Sling on my AR and love it. The only adaptation you need to make is add another sling swivel on the lower handguard just in front of the Mag Well.

They make both a 1" & 1.25" Ching Sling. Also, if you follow the links you will see how a Ching Sling works.
