im looking for somthing i can carry in my back pocket. safty, reliability and preferably 9mm but does not have to be. Thanks

I had a Ruger LCP 380. Then Ruger came out with a LC9 9mm. I traded my 380 in for the 9mm. I'm waiting for it to come in. I've done a lot of reserch on the new pocket pistols coming out and I went with the Ruger. Khar, Sig, Kimber are all too over priced. Kel Tec PF9 sounds like a nice piece for the price, but, I'm a Ruger fan. The LC9 is just a little bigger then the LCP, but, it holds bigger ammo. The LCP shot great without any trouble and I'm sure the LC9 will be just as good. Anyways, good luck in whatever you decide.

Sig P290 looks like it will fit your criteria nicely.

Truth is, you need to go out and habdle a few and see what works for you. You are going to get 10 different answers from 10 different people here and be no better off decision wise as you were when you first posed the question.

Id go play with a few and anrrow it down to 2 or 3 and then come back and ask people the pros and cons of the guns you selected and go from there.

I've been eyeing the Kahr .380 lately, it looks well made. But I've never shot it yet. My KelTec .380 was not pretty but did a great job on pocket duty. It was dependable, and I think for $250 or so, its hard to find a more practical pocket gun.

LCP in a DeSantis Superfly pocket holster.

I've attempted this route a couple times. Best solution is a Kahr P380 in a Desantis Nemesis. I'm in Rhode Island, not a gun friendly state, and the abilty for the gun to completely disappear is critical. I carry it more than anything else and no one ever knows I have it on me. The Kahr is a tad pricey, but the recoil is negligible and the trigger is absolutely fantastic for a DAO. I am a big Ruger fan but the Kahr is a much better gun than the LCP- assuming you can come up with the cash for one. I've also got a Kel-Tec in 32 ACP but every time I shoot it, the recoil causes me to drop the magazine by accident.

I won't disagree with your choice of firearm, but add that the DeSantis Superfly holster would be better for the OP's "back pocket" carry. The "fly" is attached with Velcro, and can be removed to turn it into a Nemesis. Better that way for front pocket carry.

i have the kel-tec PF9 and i have mixed feelings about it. it's certainly compact for a 9mm. it's slim and lightweight. it actually does fit in my back compact. it's surprisingly accurate. the recoil is harsh but manageable.

the pf9 has it's known issues. i had to replace the mag release and magazine followers. the gun will eject the mag when fired. i had to replace mine and will take it to the range next week to see if it solved the problem. kel-tec sent me the parts.

i would not pay more than $260 including shipping and FFL transfer fee for this gun. i found mine for $219 at CDNN.

The Superfly may be better but I've got the Nemesis. I bought it because it was cheaper than the Superfly. It has never slipped out of my pocket when I have drawn from it (either with the P380 or the P32). But the OP asked about back pocket carry, not front pocket carry, and the Nemesis is perfect for that. Personally, I can't stand anything in my front pocket. It bothers the crap out of me and is pretty obvious that I have a huge package- tee hee hee! :D

+1 on what warpig said about handling some, or lots. most of the suggestions will are good ones. but for you? you need to find out for yourself, but fondling them. are you set on a semi auto? i wouldn't rule out some of these new revolvers either. unless you like the thin of the semis.

Just released Kahr CM9... Economy version of PM9... Apparently, sales will begin Monday (March 21). If interested, I suggest getting your order in early. They'll be disappearing off the shelves right out of the gate IMHO... Kahr reliability, smaller than LC9... similar price point = winner!

But the OP asked about back pocket carry,
That's why I suggested the Superfly. The flap, or fly is a piece of the same material that the Nemesis is made from attached by a Velcro strip to a Nemesis holster. With the flap attached it completely covers the gun, making it appear as a wallet. Then, if you want to carry it in a front pocket, cargo pocket, jacket pocket, etc, remove the flap. A little more money, but like two holsters in one. Just my thoughts, but actually I most often carry it in my front pocket with the flap off.

The pocket pistols I've seen are so small as only allow you to use two fingers on the grip. I don't think that gives you a lot of control.

Taurus TCP

I think I am the first to suggest the TCP. I know a lot of gun guys who go with the TCP as a good low price alternative to the Rohrbaugh or Sig 238. I am working to get myself one. I looked at the Kel Tec but I'm bout 99% sure my next is going to be the Taurus. You will hear a lot of detractors regarding the Taurus but I feel most are guys who heard from their cousins ex boyfriend when he had one 5 years ago kind thing.

Very shortly, the Diamondback DB9 should be out. It's a 9mm, allegedly as compact as the Rohrbaugh R9, and will be priced at a fraction of what the R9 costs. It's a new gun, maybe with a lot of new problems. You may want to wait and see if it's a dog before buying.
