Looking for a party I can live with

Wonder if anyone here can help me out.

I have been scouring the conservative and political links all over the web to no avail.

I am looking for an American Political Party that embodies the following:

Nationalist
Patriotic
Pro-RKBA
Pro-punishment for criminals
Pro-choice
Non-homophobic
Non-racist
Non-Christian

Anyone know of such a party?

Hmmm. We might have a semantic breakdown here but have you ever read the platform of the Libertarian Party?

No, no breakdown. The LP is probably the closest thing I've found to a palatable alternative. However, I am strongly anti-drug so that is a bit of a problem for me as far as the LP is concerned. Good call, though. As they say, it's close enough for government work. :)

I doubt the LP would qualify as "nationalist," but then I wouldn't want it to do so. (I'd much rather it be committed to freedom for everyone in every country.) However, it is non-interventionist.

Note also that there are varying perspectives on Christianity in the LP, although the party itself is neither pro nor anti (one difference between libertarianism and objectivism).

Check out the constitution party
(see thread http://www.thefiringline.com:8080/forums/showthread.php?threadid=27226 )
While I don't agree with them - see my amazingly well written post :D - they be what you are looking for.

However, the arguements for Bush (not gore, can win) have pretty much made up my mind for the moment. However, this isn't the thread for that arguement.
Take care

Duckhunt,

You can be strongly anti-drug and be a Libertarian. You just can't get a Libertarian government to break down people's doors, lock them in cages, and kill them about drugs. I think drugs are about the most stupid lifestyle imaginable but then I fully support the right of fools to be fools.

Pro-choice, as understood today, is not a question of when does life begin. It means a disposable class of human beings waiting to be born, that is "partial-birth" abortions.

Disposable people is an essential concept for totalitarianism.

Certainly the waiting to be born have the same 5th amendment rights as anyone else. Remove those rights, and we open the gates to totalitarianism.

It will be quite difficult to find a party which defends the Bill of Rights while maintaing a pro-choice stance.

Seems to me that the Libertarian Party is the place, given your criteria.

You aren't going to find a political party that meets every single one of your ideals, because it doesn't yet exist.

Yes, the LP is non-interventionist, however, the LP sees no reason to hinder you and your friends from intervening as you see fit. It would probably 'interesting times' if the LP ever attained power for any length of time.

Interesting thing about the Libertarian Party and abortion: Harry Browne has said that the party is neither pro-choice or pro-life. They are anti-federal government (including the U.S. Supreme Court) regulating the area in any fashion. If a state wants to pass a law regarding abortion, they are free to do so, and long as that state's constitution specifically authorized state power over the area.

Harry Browne said he is personally opposed to abortion.

I suppose you're refering to slavery? Note that i wrote " . . . pass a law regarding abortion." Not outlawing it, not specifically encouraging it; regarding it in any fashion.

It's my personal opinion that if the feds hadn't meddled in the states rights area, thus starting the civil war (aka the northern war of agression) the slavery still would have been abolished, but at the more appropriate state level.

Munro,

I don't think I asked for a Christian party line on a woman's right to choose.

I asked for advice on finding a political party that fits my views.

Anyone else?

One need not be a Christian to oppose either slavery or abortion. Both posit the concept that whatever is strong is the good, creating by fiat a class of disposable human beings, made disposable merely because of their vulnerability.

It's impossible to support the concept of human rights when some folks can be killed just because others see them as an inconvenience. That idea justifies lynch mobs.

That being said, I am pro-choice and I do not wish to argue the point with you, Munro. If anyone else has any input as to the title of this thread, please speak up. Otherwise, I would ask that the moderator close it as it is now hopelessly and infuriatingly off-topic.

DH, to address your original question: The LP is the closest fit to your ideals. No party's platform is 100% compatible with that of all of its member; that simply isn't possible.

Some of my most infuriating arguments are with people who refuse to even consider switching parties (not just LP, but any party), because they disagree with that party on one issue... although they disagree with their current party on half of the issues. That, to me, stinks of brainless brand-loyalty. If the LP left me like the GOP left, for example, Dennis, I'd shoot my membership card and send it back.

Simple (or not) answer is to go indy, or find a party that fits you best. Not perfectly, but best.

I am willing to die to protect my freedom.
Are you willing to die trying to take it?

As usual, Coinneach, you add a voice of reason amongst the din. Yes, you're right about "no perfect party." The first candidate I ever voted for was a Libertarian running for state office. The Libertarian on the ticket is usually the closest to what I'm looking for. I was just hoping to find some small, obscure party that is maybe even more what I am looking for. Small odds, but I figure I might as well ask.

Right on, Spartacus. Let Darwin work its magic. I too like the Const. Party best, yet share the same concerns about them re: Christianitizing the gov't.
