looking for a new gun...need advice

I'm new to TFL, and fairly new to the shooting sports. I have a Sig Mauser M2 in .40, and am looking to make an addition. My needs are:

1) Compact. If it's too big for CC, I'm not interested.
2) SA/DA. My .40 is DAO, and I don't want another one.
3) Relatively inexpensive. HK, Sig, Paraordnance are more than I'm looking to spend.

I'd prefer a 9mm, but that isn't a must.

Any helpful suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. I've learned a lot on this forum already, and would love some knowledgeable insights on this. Thanks so much.

You're talking about a CZ 75B Compact. You can get it with a real safety or with a decocker. Can be had with aluminum or steel frame. I've got the duo-tone and it's a looker too. Around $400.

SigPro. Under $500.00 and SiG quality.

The sleepers though, and maybe the best value out there are the STARs. IMHO but backed up with direct comparisons to GLOCK, SiG, HS2000, Walther and Taurus, the BEST 9mm concealment pistol is the STAR UltraStar. Here is picture of my STAR UltarStar next to my SiG 225. Sig top, STAR bottom

For true CC,there is only a few choices, the best being a Glock 26.
Just picked one up for $480 out the door!
Pretty good deal I thought.

I'll chime in another vote for a Glock.

1. If you want compact, check out a Glock 26 or 27. Very small packages with impressive 9mm or .40 firepower.

2. Glocks are basically a DAO (I know, safe action...blah, blah) with no change in trigger pull from first shot till last.

3. If you shop around, you can pick one up for around $470-480.

Good luck.

As you have little experience with handguns, and you want to carry I would suggest that you consider a revolver to start with. The reason I suggest that is that under a stress situation you can make mistakes, forgetting to take the safety off for example. A newcomer shouldn't even consider a Glock with the main safety within the trigger! Glocks are fine guns but they are for the experienced. If you are dead set on a pistol I would suggest the Makarov in 9X18. I sincerely hope that I didn't ruffle any ones feathers. That's what I mostly carry. My 2 cents:)

A Browning Hi-Power. .40 if you can, 9mm otherwise. I have one in .40, and it is my primary carry gun if concealability isn't an issue, and I have competed in and won pin/plate shoots with it.
