Looking for a good k-22 gunsmith

I recently picked up a k22 5 screw that is definately a shooter. It seems quite tight, no obvious flaws other then some pitting above the cylinder release and holster wear. Barrel, crown and cylinder all look good, all number match up and the screws do not look as if they have ever been removed. The lockup is not like my Colts, but a dealer I trust said it was very good for a S&W.

What I am looking for is someone (maybe even S&W?) to take it apart, clean it up, fix anything that needs fixing and then re-finish it back to a nice quality blue. I called S&W and they said the re-finish would be $166 and 6 week wait, the rest no idea until they take it apart.

Comments, thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated. As a Colt shooter, this is my first S&W and I am out of my league here.

All things considered, the $166.00 charge is not out of line for a top-quality refinishing job, and if anything else needs to be replaced they will have the parts and expertise to fit them. Someone else might be a bit cheaper, but you might end up paying more in the long run. A 5-screw K-22 is a great gun. I'd go for it.

That gun is well-worth putting $166 in for a factory refinish. Let us know how you like the piece when you get it back.

Just FYI if you were wondering about turnaround time:

I recently sent a 686+ to Smith & Wesson Performance Center for a custom action job. They told me it would take 3 weeks. 3 weeks and 2 days later I had my gun back. :)
