i am pretty new to revolvers. i have had some experience with semi's, but not too much. after taking my CCW class i decided that i wanted a revolver. here is what i am looking for and i was wondering if you could offer any brands or web sites for me to look at. also i am looking to spend 450 or less. i would like a DA with a medium trigger pull. a 3-4 inch barell would be great. any finish would be fine also. i am looking for either a .38 or .357. thats about it, any suggestions?

thanks,

Take a peek over at http://www.jgsales.com/- they have some great deals going on with their Smith & Wesson revolvers. Think they're all blue .38's- but the price is unbeatable.

There's also Taurus' they have a pretty wide array of carry suitable wheelguns. I've never been a fan of their triggers- but again, the price is decent.

A 3" S&W Model 66 or 19, Taurus Model 66, Ruger Security, Police Service, Speed Six, or GP 100 would all be excellent choices.

Concealed carry revolver

I just bought a new S&W 642 Airweight this year. It is a .38 DA only and weights only 15 oz. If you want to carry it, it's hard to beat this model. I paid about $400 for it, you can get the hammered version (637) for a little less. Smith has a lot of models of various sizes, take a look at their web site. Any S&W would be a good choice if you buy new, used ones depend on the use or abuse they may have seen (as with any brand).

Taurus, S&W ... not really any wrong choices in the major brands.

Why decide on a revolver, though? Not that I think it's wrong, I'm just wondering why.

I carry a S&W Model 10 .38 w/ 4 inch barrel everyday. Excellent trigger, capable of +P ammo, good quality and fairly inexpensive on the used market (there's a million of them out there)...

Good choice so far on your CCW. Let us know what you come up with.

I regularly carry a S&W Mod. 60 in 38/357 with a 3" barrel

Easily concealable, shoots either 38sp., +P's, and 357. Great little gun and I recommend it highly.

reasons

one of the main reasons i am looking at revolvers is the lack of magizines to be honest. i have spent some time in the military and one of my biggest fears was having a bad spring in a magizine when i needed the rounds. since i don't plan on reloading, a revolver with its ease of use is my best bet. i can keep it loaded all the time and not have to worry about it not going bang. thanks for the input, i'll try and put it to good use.

SOG just sent me their new catalog today. They have:

S&W Model 65. .357 and four inch in stainless. $250

S&W M36, blue, .38 Special, three inch barrel, $200.

S&W 681, .357, four inch, stainless, $280.

S&W M13, four inch blue, .357, $200.

And one of my favorites, the Ruger GP100 with the no lug barrel, stainless, four inch, no hammer spur, DAO, $230.

Not in the same category but they also have the SIG 220 in .45 ACP for $389! SIG P239 in 9mm for $360.

My Top 3

1. Smith & Wesson 640
2. Ruger SP-101
3. Smith & Wesson 66 2.5" K-Frame
4. Smith & Wesson 60

Each is stainless steel. The Smith's will probably have better triggers out of the box. If not, action jobs can be done a bit more simply on Smiths. If that is not a concern, the SP-101 is a big heavier and can be found in a 3" barrel. There are a lot of great used revolvers out there was well.

Wheelguns Rule.

PS: Don't discount a good semi-auto. With quality magazines and keeping the weapon clean, you probably will get 99.9% reliability from a good brand: glock, sig, springfield, smith, hk, etc.
