Looking for a good 9mm 1911 for under 650

Ideas for a good 1911 chambered in 9mm or even 45 under 650. Preferably 9mm but 45 works(though unlikely). American Classic commander seems to be within this budget, Remington 1911 R1 9mm seems to be about 50 bucks over budget but may consider saving a bit longer for it if possible.

That Ruger seems to be about 750-800 on most sites. That’s not even include paying for transfer and shipping. It’s a nice weapon though.

buds gun shop has it for $730.

I know you Said $650, at that price you are in the low end 1911 market unless you find a smoking deal. But the $700-$800 range gets you into the Colts, ruger, Springfield, Remington, kimber, s&w clss.

you can spend obscene money on a 1911, and I am new to the platform also.. but from my research and recent ecperience, at the $750 Mark you get an all American made gun with superior warranties, and will last a lifetime.

Save anothe $150 and get a basic yet quality 1911. otherwise, if that's $$$ the limit, get a glock or m&p.

Don't bother saving for the Remington. Avoid it at all costs. The American Classic/Metro gets decent reviews. I'd also consider a cheaper Rock Island or Citadel, and you would have money left over for some good mags, holster, ammo.

If you're OK with saving a little more, I'd also recommend the Ruger or Springfield.

I can get the Remington 1911 in 9mm for about 750 with tax and all included. I believe it’s American made. I don’t know about warranties on Remington though.

What’s wrong with the Remington? That bad?

Remington just did go bankrupt though. There are horror stories about every maker, some more than others. But ruger and S&W have the best warranties in the business and are all American made. Springfield is not.

Rock island is Philippines.

A couple of friends have the Rock Island's in both 9mm and .45. All of them love their guns. All fire every time and are accurate. The 9mm is very mild to shoot in the full sized guns.

Warranty and QC on Remington these days is awful. Rock Island warranty and QC is awesome from what I hear. I've had a 9mm 1911 from them for a little while, and never any problems with it.

Now the decision of 45 or 9mm. A classic 45 for what it was made in is nice but 9mm seems more cost effective in long run and still easily disabled any would be attackers

Worse.

To stay within your budget, get a Rock Island. Best warranty service anywhere. Metro Arms/American Classic are also very good guns. Both are lower price because they're made in the Philippines, where labor costs are lower, but both are good guns.

My FiL haunted Gunbroker until he got a very nice Metro Arms for around $420 OTD. It's been great.

The are still 9mm Star Super B's out there for under $300. They look and feel like a 1911 (though they lock up like a BHP and don't have a grip safety). I paid around $250 OTD for mine. It is a high quality pistol, and a better all-around shooter than my perfectly adequate GI-style 45acp 1911. I own a lot of semiautomatic pistols, and it is one of the very best shooters. The quality is extraordinary for the price.

I've had a Rock Island FS 9mm that I've owned for three years. Very happy with it, think I paid about $475 at the time. Great bang for the buck.

I found a used Springfield RO in 9mm for $500. Minor finish wear and I replaced all the springs. It's been flawless so far.
I will say a 9mm 1911 is a joy to shoot.

At one time Springfield had their frames made in Brazil, but I think all of them are coming from Illinois now. There has been a tremendous amount of discussion on this in the past. Regardless, they are good guns imho.

I have a RIA full size "Rock" (previously tac 1). I have had no problems of any kind and it is the most accurate handgun I have. I have about 800-1000 rounds through it. I got it from Gallery of Guns for a little under $500 out the door.
