I need a dependable revolver for work... holster carry . I am looking at the Smith & Wesson - Model 36 - 38 special ! I am open to any suggestions that any revolver specialists have to offer...

Some others I am looking at are ...

Ruger - SP101 - .357 magnun

Ruger - Security Six - .357 magnum 4" barrel
(I wish it was Cali legal!)

S&W model 60 Chief's Special .357

Thanks!

Good Shooting!:D

What do you plan to use it for?

I know you said work, but - concealed or holster?

All of the guns you mentioned are fine.

Well, for "duty carry" in a quality holster I would recommend
any of the three. Some offical "uniform duties" require a 4"
to 6" barrel, so this would most definitely favor the Ruger
Security-Six. + it has adjustable sight's; which is something
that most LEO/security types would prefer in a quality six-
shooter.:)

For plainclothes carry, either the five shot, J-frame Smith
& Wesson model 36; or the Ruger SP101 would work well.
The Smith & Wesson "Chief's Special" model 36 would be
lighter in weight; which is always a consideration when
packing all day!

Fuel for thought, if you choose the model 36; then why
not upgrade to the stainless steel Smith & Wesson model
60? I prefer the "vintage model" which is identical to the
model 36, but constructed entirely of stainless steel.
Nowdays, you have a S&W model 60 in .357 magnum!:D
Keep in mind, that this version is larger than the previously
mentioned vintage model. Vintage models are getting really
hard to come by in my neck of the woods. Price range may
run anywhere between $250.00 to $400.00 dependent on
condition, and who the seller is.

The Security/Service Six series isn't on the California "list" and never will be . Only Ruger Inc is allowed to list it, and it's not in their best interest to do so.

Thanks for all the input!

Thanks for the great advice... I am leaning toward the S&W model 60 .357! But, I will welcome any more suggestions...

Thanks again!

I think that the 686+ is an excellent choice!

It is somewhat heavier than the Model 60 or the SP 101 but that should not be any major problem if you use a good holster and belt combination. As I write those works it comes to mind that a good belt-holster combo is required for any carry gun. I have a 686+ snubby which is a pleasure to carry. I sure like it! Good shooting:)
