Looking for a .22

Hey guys/gals,

I'm looking for a cheap but reputeable .22 LR. Anyone got some suggestions?

I think it's main use will be just for trigger practice. I need something that's a little cheaper to shoot.

TIA

The ruger 10/22 has been the standard for a long time. There are a TON of aftermarket parts/barrels available for it.

I have a marlin model 60,along with a 10/22,25mn,Henry lever action,67 win.single shot, and various other pistols in .22. They are way cheaper to shoot and I don't flinch near as much,,good practice and a lot of fun...My dad has a glenfield 9 shot 22 that is as accurate as any I've seen....The marlin would be a little cheaper and just as fun though not a many acc. to go with it like the 10/22..I like my 10/22 better cause of the magazine feed vs.the tube feed,,reloading is faster and easier w/an extra mag.,though marlin may have a mag. feed available.

For cheap and reliable, the surplus Romanian training rifles are good to go. They shoot well, too.

Semper fi,
Bruegger out.

'Nother vote for the Romanian .22 trainers.

I just say a flyer from Big-5 sporting goods. If you have one in your area, they are selling these for $69.

If you want an accurate bolt-action with 5-round detachable box magazine, these are fine rifles.

Accuracy is really good.

They have rails for a scope.

can find them on sale sometimes for $49
If you ever get bored, you can finish up the stock as a fun gun project

I'd second the Savage idea from Wal-Mart.In my neck of the woods its $105.00 for a bolt action and scope! The Ruger is the standard, but they shoulder really weird for me and are therefore worthless.

Have you tried any of the higher grade 10/22's? The Deluxe Sporter and International models have a normal butt pad instead of the weird half-moon cut out of the base models.

Just wondering if you have tried them and if so---if you like those or not.

More curious than anything.

I have a Marlin 25N. Very nice gun IMO. A scope can be mounted if desired.

Never shot the Ruger 10/22, but my roommate swears by one he had years ago.

Another vote for the Savage I just picked one of those deals up at Wally Worl the other week for 99 bucks. I replaced the scope of course. and man that is a sweet shooter :D
I prefer the synthetic stock like thenone I purchased as opposed to wood.

I don't know which models of the 10/22 i've tried, all i know is if i had one i'd need an extra joint in my neck in order to shoot it!

1951 winchester 61

Went to buy 1022. Left w/wincester61, pump action,mint condition, '51 production, serial13xxxx. $325.
Why:too beautiful to pass up, very sweet. Love the Ruger but practicality can wait.
Interested in comments, particularly impressions of the rifle, pros/cons, interesting history if any.
