Looking for a .22 wheel gun

I was getting geared up to buy a S&W 18, until I fondled a Colt Diamondback. From the outside the Diamondback looks and feels nicer, noticeably nicer. Granted I've only looked at one of the Colts, they're kinda hard to come across 'round these parts.

I'd like to ask you guys who have experience with one or the other, or both, how you'd rate them. Any bad unforseen things about the Colt I oughta know about? Same goes for the Smith.

To buy one of these Diamondbacks is going to cost me nearly twice the price of the Smith. While money is a factor, I'd druther spend the extra and have no regrets in the end.

Thanks........

I don't have experience with the Colt either, but I do have the K-22 (pre-17), and would find it hard to believe that any double action revolver feels & shoots better.
It was considered by many, to be the pre-eminent small bore target pistol of the last century.

Had a 4" barrel Colt Diamondback.

It was very well made with a slick action and great trigger. The balance was exceptional, finish flawless. Its biggest downfall was the sights, they were not that great. The revolver shot very well and was more accurate than me. ( That's not saying a great deal)

If your open to alternatives Dan Wesson makes a great .22 revolver, the Model .22 or 722 in stainless. If you can find a used one it's usually an absolute bargain. I have had the Colt Diamondback and a S&W Model 617. Neither will shoot groups like the Dan Wesson which is why I still have it.

Take Care

I have only handled a few Dan Wesson's, but they all were quality firearms. They are often real sleepers on the used market, you can get a lot of gun for your buck.

They are supposed to excellent guns.

I just can't see spending twice as much as you would on the M18. Plus, if you have other S&W revolvers in your collection, the handling and trigger-time with it will carry-over for you and make you a better shooter.;)

My favorite 22 revolver happens to be my 4" Diamondback. It's brethen includes the Ruger SP101 (4" heavy barrel) and a S&W 8 shot (2" bbl). Of the three, the Diamondback is a pure joy (wish my S&W as a 3" w/adjustable sights) to shoot and it's a pleasure to gawk at when I lovingly clean it (so much for objectivity).
