Good day, all.
Would be happy to hear some opinions regarding all weather 22Magnums.
I've been looking at these,
1. Ruger 77/22 timber or synthetic, sporter barrel
2. Savage 93FVSS
3. Marlin XT SSV

Which would you pick, why, would you suggest something else, and is an "all weather" outfit really necessary? Or is it marketing?
I look forward to your ideas.
cheers

.

An "all-weather" gun is less problematic, than a standard gun, for anyone using it in all kinds of weather.

For someone not planning on using one that way, an "all-weather's" more about looks/preferences.

Good choices

1. Ruger 77/22 timber or synthetic, sporter barrel
2. Savage 93FVSS
Currently I can only speak to these two and both have given equal performance. Of course you know which one cost the least. .... ;)

Won't say it's necessary but there is are advantages !! ... ;)
Be Safe !!!

Both Fine rifles

I have a fluted heavy barrel Savage in 22 WMR with a accu-trigger and I like it. I used to be a Remington 700 man but now I am a Savage guy. Great guns at a great value and not part of the investment banker group that owns Remington, Bushmaster, Dpms, Marlin and that threw AR's under the bus in the press after the CT disaster. Over the last few years Remington idea of innovation is to produce a cheap knock-off of the 700. Savage has come out with the Accu-Trigger, Accu-stock, and kept them affordable.

Rugers are fine guns as well and a top notch company that has been very innovative as well. Tough decision without putting them both in my arms side by side. Either one is a fine rifle but the Savage may be a better value.

It's the right short list, I believe. Since I sold my CZ 453 Varmint, I'm now eyeing the Savage BSEV .17 Hummer - that one is both all-weather AND has a stylish flair to it.

As far as Voluartsen goes - I can vouch that both them and Magnum Research, with their "Magnum Lite" semi-auto 10/22mag clones, make outstanding rifles.

However, sounds like you want a turnbolt, and that fits better with "all-weather" - more reliable cycling in the wet and grit.

Now, Volquartsen I know did at one time make a turnbolt rimfire that used 10/22 magazines (10/22 or 10/22 magnum, depending upon model), usually or always with CF barrels, but I cannot find that they still do - looks like they may be making ONLY the semi-autos now. So, point is, does anyone know of the right website for Volquartsen and their complete product lineup, and whether or not they're still making the turnbolt version in addition to the semi-auto version?

I had the Ruger but was forced to sell raising cash for unexpected bills. Mine was synthetic and it worked quite well. Very well pleased with it and would buy again if funds permit it. The stock was a bit thin and some hardware had contrasting color, but still I liked it a lot. The guy that bought it is very happy with it.
