HOWDY,

FIRST TIME POSTING HERE AND HAVE SOME Q & A ABOUT MY NEW .58 HOWDAH.

FIRST, SAW THIS ON CABELA RECENTLY:

.58 Rifled Howdah Pistol, January 17, 2010
By ConicalJoe from PA

"Accuracy very good but impact points differ a few inches per barrel at 25yrds. Barrels differ on rifling depth and are over bored as usual for Pedersoli. Paper patching conicals solves this issue, patched balls are no problem. Recoil mild with 80g. 50yrd groups are tight per barrel and could reach farther once I get the butt stock. This is a hunting pistol with plenty of deer taking power & accuracy to at least 75yds with balls or conicals. Lock engraving could be deeper for the money but still awsome. Best accuracy with 380g Buffalo Ball-ets. Very pleased and look forward to hunting hogs and deer this yr. Rear sight is adjustable for windage in a unique way but not elivation. Change the front sight to a pin type and you will be very accurate at long distance."

AND THIS WAS POSTED IN 2009:

"Fit and finish is nice, but not exceptional.Barrels are heavy and thick, mine handles 75 gr.FFg blackpowder, and over an ounce of shot, but kick could put hammers in your face if you do not shoot it from ''hip''....With 50 gr. of FFg it will shoot a round ball accurately''deer sized target'',recoil not a problem ,to 60 yards -''for me'',maybee farther with practice..Very fun to shoot, looks cool and dangerous.

SINCE ALL I HAVE RIGHT NOW ARE .575213 Old Style Hollow Base, I WAS WONDERING IF THESE BUFFALO'S WOULD BE BETTER OR WORSE AND IF THOSE CHARGES ARE REALISTIC.

I'VE ONLY TAKEN THIS PUPPY TO THE RANGE ONCE, BUT IT WAS TOO COLD TO STAY LONG ENOUGH TO GET A REAL GOOD FEEL FOR WHAT IT WAS DOING.

SECOND, ANYONE ELSE HAVE ONE OF THIS MODEL, WHAT DO YOU USE, WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND ?

THIRD, I DO HAVE SOME SWAGED .570 FOR PRB BUT WOULD PREFER TO USE CONICALS WITH THIS SO I COULD "FEED" A JP MURRAY CARBINE AND THE HOWDAH WITH THE SAME AMMO (HAS TO BE BETWEEN 300-500 GRAIN). I LIKE 'ONE STOP SHOPPING' SINCE I CAN'T CAST WHERE I PRESENTLY LIVE.

AND FINALLY, I SEE SOME FAMILIAR NAMES HERE FROM THAT OTHER FORUM - THE ONE THAT ONLY TALKS ABOUT "...MY GPR IN 54..." OR "..WHAT LUBE SHOULD I USE FOR MY HAWKIN - HA, HA, HA ! !

MY 'FAMILY': NAVY ARMS 1860 'REB SHERIFF' .44; 1850 PEDERSOLI .58 HOWDAH; EUROARMS 1862 .58 JP MURRAY REB CARBINE; AND MY #1 - 1856 NAVY MODEL LEMAT (AKA "OL' MOSES").

SORRY FOR RAMBLIN' ON SO LONG BUT THERE WASN'T A USERS MANUAL IN THE BOX FROM PEDERSOLI AND I'M STILL PIECING IT ALL TOGETHER.

It's the big D, what's up?

I picked up some .610 rb for my 20ga Howdah, good fit with a .010 patch. Have not been out to try them yet, I've read that 50grs is a good load for the prb.

No rear sight on mine so I shoot at 5, 10, and 15 yds. If it ever quits raining I'll do a range report on these.

Hey, you ol' son of a gun, how are ya !

well, i actually went the distance and took mine to the richmond range last month for a test.

all i had were lubed .577" conicals and they fit fairly tight going down but i honestly couldn't see anything on the target at 25 yds.... if i remember correctly i loaded 40gr FF only since that's what was recommended by tech support at DP.... i actually like what i see from this "ConicalJoe from PA" but i'd like to talk to him in person.

suzi from thegunworks in springfield said the buffalo's are actually .575" (and only 380gr) and that seems a little small... i'll have to see about paper patching.

loading a round ball is no problem... i have .010 and even .015 patches for the .570" hornady ammo i got from log cabin online a while back for the jp murray... by the way, that little sombich is a gem in the rough.... both rounds were right where i pointed..

FYI, this .58 actually does have a rear sight that folds down.... it's shaped like a half butterfly wing (like a wide M ) and does help... personally, i can't hold it with just one or two hands on the grip so i came up with a leather band that slides over the barrels and stock with my hand tightly inbetween... aiming then is somewhat off to the side, but hey, it works.

have you seen the shoulder stock they have for these ? cabela is practically giving 'em away at a mere $190.....

i'll be lookin' for that range report and will post mine when i finally get a thorough set of data..

If I wasn't trying to scrape together the money to get the rest of my CAS guns, the Howdah Pistol would absolutely be my next purchase! Prolly would have bought it before my Remmie. That sucker is so cool!
