I have seen Franchi for $400
Benelli for $1000
Beretta 1201fp $600
Which is the best deal.
Looks like they're all italian and imported by Benelli.
I think all use the Benelli type recoil action.

Benelli M4

I listed the newest Benelli for your consideration.

I own a 12 year old HK/Benelli M1 Super 90.
It is very fast, accurate and kicks hard. I love it :D

Remington 1100 Competition Master...I just got one and love it! Benelli's are nice if you don't mind your shoulder getting the crap beat out of it. ;)

This is an interesting tread. I too am inquiring about the best auto fighting shotgun. If possible please include why you think your choice is better, i.e. did you get it got the looks; capable of faster splits; softens recoil better than brand - X; better balance and so on... My experience, I picked a Mossberg 9200 because it was what I can afford at the time. It is not a bad shotgun and I intend to put a 10 rnd extended mag tube to increase capacity. I am eyeballing a Winchester practical SX2 due to the claim of, "Fastest cyclic rate". But between your original choice I'd pick the Franchi because of what "I heard" being reliable and cheaper. More rounds for practice. josh

Browning Auto-5: With 50s and later guns you can thumb in a shell to the mag and it is wisked instantly to the chamber! No action release or any thing necessary to have a loaded gun!
They never malfunction if nothing is broken and properly assembled.
'Splits'? For anti personnel use the thing cycles faster than you can pull it down out of recoil!

Mine has a 19" cyl barrel, rifle sights, singlepoint sling swivel, piece of Pic rail inleted on left upper foreend (where its thickest) for a light, and a 13" LOP stock with a Decellerator pad.
It shoots 12" 20 yard patterns with 00buck, and 3" 40 yard groups with slugs.
Lewis Awerbuck wanted to buy my $350 Combat shottie! :D

My favorite is my Benelli 121 M1. It will cycle as fast as you can pull the trigger, is more accurate than I am and has wood furniture (so I can still buttstroke and not worry about breakage  )

I have got to go with Gordo on this one. I would put my 18 inch barrel Browning A5 magnum 12 up against anyone's fighting shotgun. Not only are they fast to load and fire, they are as 'bullet proof' as any shotgun ever made. They are very, very reliable.

Umm...I wonder what folks like Awerbuck have to say...

Proven "fightin' shotguns" : Win model '97 and 12, Ithaca 37, Rem 870. Just to name a few used in conflicts up through Vietnam. These are ones I either own or have used. I would not hesitate to use any of these...

Folks having been in real world conflicts in more recent times can chime in with newer offerings.

I would love to see pictures of the Auto-5 shotguns you guys have described here. Do you have any pictures of your setups?

Thanks

Browning A5 is a cool shotgun as is its very close cousin the Remington 11. Louis Awerbuck and I both lucked onto Rem 11s for a steal a month or so back. A call to Jack First had the A5 two-piece carriers and related parts here within a couple of days and now the Remington's load just like the A5 does without having to press the carrier release button.

The barrel was cut to 18.75 inches and a Williams Shorty dovetail, dovetail block and bead silver soldered to the barrel (pic attached).

On a side note, the standard plus-two mag extensions will bring the Rem 11 to total of 7 rounds in the tube instead of the expected 6, though it does take a small amount of machine work on the interior of the extension to get it to work.

p.s. to sm-
Louis likes the A5 and owns and shoots several. ;)

I posted here a few months back pictures of mine. Now the thing is painted with KG coat on the metal and going to get Black knobby polyurethane on the stock this week. I too want to know where I can get a =2 extension for an Auto 5, althoughn I don't feel lost with out it as it is so easy to load! :)

The extension is a Tac Star for an 870. The magazine cap on the A5/M11 is deeper than that on an 870/1100, though the threads are the same. A small amount of material has to be removed on the extension in front of the threads to allow it to screw on all the way.

A Saiga might be a good choice, but if you want a pistol grip, you are gonna have to do a lot of dremel work, and magazines are quite expensive.
