A new in the box Browning BL22. Serial number is on the barrel. Sold new in July of 1969. Never fired!

No problem, I paid 600.00 for a nib smith 422 and the Browning. I didn't debate or delay. I should have bought a lottery ticket on the way home.
 
Nope the very first lot shipped over had the serial number on the barrel. Nothing on the receiver. Not many were sold like that. Apparently they were pulled immediately after going on sale. All the woodwork is french walnut lacquered to an ultra gloss. The blueing is flawless. I knew when I saw it that it was something different.
 
Apparently the very first ones were pulled from the stores after delivery. Some were sold. These very first ones have some very nice hardware.
 
I have a Grade II BL-22, a bit newer than years (bought new), and is till used for plinking quite frequently.

What year did Browning quit importing these from Belgium?
