Long versus Short Triggers on 1911s

What is the advantage of a long, extended trigger on a 1911, as opposed to the shorter trigger of a milspec 1911?

Seems like the ones on new 1911s are just a tad to long for me.
 
It is a matter personal preference and what fits your hand just like arched or flat mainspring housings. I like a Gold Cup width long trigger on a standard single stack frame, but a short trigger on on the wide body Para Ordnance frame.
 
The new ones are too long for me too. When I got a trigger job on my Kimber, I jumped at the chance to get a short trigger.
