I have a shotgun that is a single shot only markings are Long Tom it has a 413/4 length barrel I don't know anything about it excepy it's been in my family since before me. any help would be appreciated thanks R Hoffler
Sir: I probably have it's brother. Mine is a 12ga., single shot(break open) with exposed hammer. It has a 40" barrel. It is also only marked "Long Tom". I did some research on it, a number of years ago, and it was more than likely a product sold by Sears & Roebuck, through their catalog(Ahhhh the 'Good Ol' Days').
I got it from my aunt, it being my uncle's, and he had passed away.I got it about 50 years ago, and have used it to hunt squirrel and crows with. Naturally I have had to reload special shells for it. I use fine grain rock salt mixed in with the shot to preserve the meat until I can get to it.
I do not use magnum shells in it, but do use hunting loads with no problems. Before you shoot your gun, have it checked out by a competent smith.
Good shooting!
Got one here as well, in 16 Ga. Was great granpa's meat gun. Fer squirrels-n-such. I do not shoot it much but I did you it to bust hand-tossed doubles which was fun. Mine has an ejector that really lanches the empty.
