Long Shot & 40S&W

I plan on loading some 165 grn gold dots and 180 grn fmj and 180 grn Nosler hp with Long Shot.
In the online hodgdon site max load for a 165grn is 7.8
and for a 180 grn max load is 8.0 grn

Shouldn't the max load for the heavier 180 grn be less then the max load for the 165 grn?

The Hodgdon 2002 manual says 6 gr Longshot for 200 gr 40sw.
I worked up to 12 gr and the brass started not liking it.
That is an experimentally found real limit at 100% more powder than published.

To me, I look for case bulges, primer piercing, and cases landing 5 feet away. Change the load or change the recoil spring(s) to get the pistol and ammo tuned up to be reliable and not pounding itself. That is probably going to be at LESS than published loads.

Yes, it should be less, not a tiny bit more. And lead bullets will have lighter loads than jacketed. I checked the Hodgdon's site and saw that using the 8.0gr load w/ 180r jacketed, the pressure was <35k PSI, which is the max SAAMI pressure.

I am shooting 180r lead truncated, using 7.0gr of Longshot, which is an excellent powder w/ full-power loads.
