I am starting to get into long range shooting and I would like to hear suggestions for a good scope. I will mostly be shooting at 600 yds but I might move out to 1000 once in a while. My budget is about $300. I have mainly been looking at Muellers and Vortex. Do you guys have any recommendations? Thanks.

Triple your budget and you can get reliable, quality glass to fit your needs. Close to your budget, you can find a fixed power Super Sniper. You might also be able to pick up a used Leupy vari-x 2 or 3 for close to your budget. Good luck!

Depends on your target, eyes and shooting ability. My 700P has a 3.5-10x40 on it. At 1000 yards you're going to want a 30mm tube and probably a base with 20moa elevation.

I'm getting old and don't see small things as well as I used to, so probably going to move up to a 4.5-14 power.

Try see if you can still get a nitrex scope. They are diconntinuing them so they have them marked from 700.00 down to 359.00 with a 100.00 rebate.
I also shoot 600 to 1000 yards. I can tell you don't get less than a 32 power scope,if you do it still can be done, but at 600 on things get very hard to see. We shoot eggs at 600 yards and i can't say for sure but anything less than 20 power and you will probebly not even be able to see the eggs.
Check out Natchez shooters sply. The Nitrex scope have geat glass and i could not be happier with it.

Look at the Vortex line of scopes. The Vortex Viper line is really nice but may blow your budget depending on what magnification you want. I just got a Vortex Viper 2-7x32mm. It was on sale for $169.95 and it is every bit as clear as my Leupold VX-1 4-12x40mm...

I agree with 4runnerman. I have a 7mm mag that I deer hunt with in West Virginia topped with a Bushnell Elite 4200 2.5-10x50 and it is tough to get a real good look at a deer 400-500 yards away let alone an egg at 1,000. Definitely going to want more magnification if your going 600-1,000 yards. Keep us posted on your decision and how it works out. Kinda curious myself.

I have a Springfield Armory 4-12x56 on my PSS. It hads BDC for .308 out to 1,000 and a bubble level in the bottom of the scope. I spent about $500 for it.

I have heard really good things about Mueller scopes. I was looking at the 8-32x44 target scope. I have also been looking at the Intensity 6.5-20x44, Carson 6-18x50 and the Weaver grand slams. I'm not sure about the quality of any of these scopes since I can't find any of them in my local stores. Have you guys used or read anything about these?
