Long Range Pistol Shooting

10mm Witness, strong hand-load behind a 155gr pill and I hit two clay pigeons (sitting on the ground) in a row at a measured 145 yards.

Yup, that was good enough for me, I packed up the 10mm and went to shooting something else before I embarrassed myself trying to duplicate the feat :D

There are some great articles out there on long range pistol shooting. I enjoy reading about legends like Elmer Kieth and the like. I like shooting at a 5 gallon bucket with my 4.5 inch 44 mag. 200-250 yards is big sport!

I have had those miracle shots too (When I say miracle shot I am talking about my shooting, not yours). I shot a golf ball off of the mouth of a beer bottle (wihtout breaking the bottle) free hand at 60 yards with my .44 while someone was watching! I had to put it away and just let them think i was that good (I'm not).

You gentlemen have it down cold,,,

That's the hardest part of making one of those shots,,,
Trying to keep a straight face to fool the witnesses into thinking you could do it again.

I once shot a .22 rifle backwards over my shoulder,,,
Using a mirror to see the sights and target,,,
Popped a coke can at 50 yards range.

I ruined the effect by trying to do it again,,,
You guys were smarter than I was.

long distance shooting with a handgun?

That would be anything beyond 50 feet. I don't wear glasses, and my right eye has always been weak. A golf ball? 200 yards with a scoped rifle, 50 feet maybe on a good day if the light is right.

One of the most impressive shooting that I ever witnessed wasn't due to the distance or the size of the target.
It was what was used.
it was a 100 yard shot on a water filled, quart bottle with a Walther PPK, .380.
Pocket sized gun, tiny little sights with a short sight radius, stiff, high poundage trigger and a less than flat shooting caliber.
The fellow shooting hit the bottle with every round in the magazine.
Wouldn't want that guy mad at me.

Good thinking...I did the same with a Dan Wesson 357 mag at 200 yards, the clays were on the berm so add another 17 yards. First shot, poof. Should have emptied the gun and gone home. Had 4 more rounds to shoot. They were impressed I was so close but no longer impressed with my amazing feat...sigh.
