Long Range Hunting Setup

Heres my new new setup. 7mm WSM. Rem 700 SA. 31" Pac-Nor Heavy Palma bbl. EGW 20 MOA base. Choate Ultimate Sniper Stock. Chambering was done by my smith, Tim Thompson, in Shelby, MS at Bill's Custom Automatics. I would recommend him to anyone that wants a long range setup.

That will make a great hunting rifle, the animals won't see it coming! :)

Actually I just want to subscribe because it sounds like a nice rifle, I'd like to see it when you get the pictures up.

I wonder what it weighs, and how many mountains you are going to carry it over?
I am wondering if it is a hunting or just a shooting rifle?
Jerry

Sorry guys about the wait. I finally downsized the files. Here they are.

It might be that, but with the money I just dropped on it, something is gonna die this fall using this gun. I don't care if it's a squirrel...:D

Where's the trigger?

It'll be hard to shoot it without one!:D

What optics are you planning on?

I have an Ultimate Varminter stock on my LR 300WM rifle,it can get a LITTLE heavy on a long trek hunting, you may want to get another stock to put the rifle in on hunting trips. That's what I did.

Must be a new type of bodybuilding. 18 lbs of rifle!! And you spent all that money for the Pac Nor barrel, EGW base, tactical bolt handle, and got Choate stock??? If I built rifles like that, I would be broke.

Actually the oversized knob was all me. Amazing what an assortment of files a tap and die can do. It was a win or lose project. If i fudged it up I was goin to buy a knew bolt handle from ptg. But I was feeling confident and won. I put the trigger and firing pin assembly in today. I'm not sure on the scope for this fall. Prob a nikon 6-24x50 Monarch with the fine crosshair w/dot. Next summer when I'm working and out of school again I'll probably end up with the good ole Nightforce 12-42x56.;)

Scorch,I take it you don't like Choate stocks.
May I inquire why?

Fred Choate makes some pretty good stocks,IMO. I have used his products for many years, and have always had good results out of them. While they may not be the best looking products on the market, they hold up to serious use,and the bedding system he has is as good,if not better than most others.

Agreed. And the stock isn't like it was when I bought it. Ive inletted and bedded the first few inches of the barrel and left the V-Block as it was so it cold do its job. And Scorch, if you want to buy me a McMillan, I'd gladly accept it. This rifle was built as an expensive hunting toy with the ability to do whatever I please. Not strictly for paper punching and not strictly for hunting. It's my toy that I don't let the other kids play with.

LOL, that's a good one. With a 7mm WSM there won't be enough left to tell that it was a squirrel. (LOL)

Very nice, and I've been toying with the idea of getting a 7MM gun of some type. Been liking what I've read on the short mags. Though I know in Idaho I couldn't hunt with your particular rifle due to the 16 lb ready to shoot weight limit. Regardless, I'll let that rifle punch my shoulder a few times.

Heavy, injection-molded plastic, and the cheesy little vinyl pads on it. For about the same cost, you can get a B&C Medalist (which will weigh about 1 lb less) or a Knoxx stock (Axiom or Compstock), for a little more you can buy a H-S Precision stock, or for about 1/2 that price you could get a Hogue (heavy, but not a bad stock). MacMillan stocks are waaaay overpriced, you can get a real custom laid-up composite stock for what MacMillan wants for their stocks.
