Long or short Trigger pull on P89 in SA?

I bought a P89, and found that when in SA (hammer cocked), the trigger pull distance is full, just like in DA mode, although in SA mode, there is minimal resistance pulling back the trigger up to the last 1/16" or so, when the sear "breaks". On every other DA/SA semi-auto I've fired, cocking the hammer results in the trigger being retracted back, and the movement needed to 'fire' is only that 1/16" or so, just as on a typical SA-only auto.

Is my P89 normal or defective? I can see where a long trigger movement in SA would help prevent accidental firing while on cock, but it is strange, and distracting when target shooting. Any word from somebody with personal experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
