Long LOP 22LR

Son is looking for Semi-Auto 22LR with long LOP. Many seem to be in the 13"-14" range and feel like toys.

So far, the best feeling is the Remington 597. Nice grip on the fore-end. Not sure of LOP, but would work.

I have a 10/22 with tactical adjustable stock that works good for me, but does not want to spend the cash.

suggestions?

How long is long?

Dr. Major--I have recently acquired a Rem 597. I'm 6'2" plus a fraction, with long arms to match, and the LOP on that rifle's stock fits me to a T. I, too, like the grip of the fore-end.

With regard to yr. son's reluctance to spend money--Is that a "can't" or just a "won't"? There are a lot more retro options available for the 10/22 than for the 597--a whole lot.

At most gun shows, you would find a number of used 10/22's. You would also see maybe 1 or 2 used 597's, at perhaps 2/3 the price of the 10/22's.

What is the intended use for this autoloading .22 rifle? For instance, if it is to be a "project" gun, get the 10/22 regardless, just because of all the fun retro parts your son can spend years buying, putting on, taking off, and trying in various combinations.

he plans to just fun shoot and hunt squirrels.

He does not want to spend a lot- he could, but he works his budget. He spent a lot on his 12ga hunting and skeet and 30-06. Feels the 22 is more utility gun and fun.

I really like my 10/22 with adjustable tactical stock... it lengthens nicely and has a 50mm scope on it. What fun.
